Does anyone have experience with the following AC? Seems like a great solution for temporary AC needs. Most of the time we cruise in cooler temps, but there are a few times were AC would be nice and we don't want to do the 'window ' model or the rooftop.

One statement in their info that concerns me: "May take up to 48 hours to 48 hours for Climate Right to reach the comfort zone." A small window air conditioner through the center window will cool our 25 down in short order and costs about 1/5 the price of that Climate Right. The window a/c will run on a 15 amp circuit.
 
Jim, many A/C specs say that and I think they may be referring to the first time you light it off when it has to get everything in the dog house (or boat) cold when it's been warm for a long time... Just thinkin'

Why not a front window A/C for $90 put a boat cusion down and lay it on that sticking it out enough to drain . Takes about 10 min to set up we keep the A/C unit in the front seat it will run on a 1000 watt honda .or a 15 amp circuit. We were going to do the roof A/C but I just didnt want to cut into the roof . The only time we use the air is at a marina although she will work of a genset . Don't complicate a simple solution Jim

Thanks for the comments. I think you guys are right - i think I'll try the window AC. Worst case we don't like it and give away a $90 AC to someone.

I'll do some searching but is there a specific Walmart unit that fits the 22 front window?

We bought the Frigidaire 5,000 BTU Mini Window Air Conditioner with Rotary Controls FRA052XT7 from Wal Mart. com and had it delivered to Jekyl Island last year when we were heading up the coast in July. It worked great, fits in the front window with some floaties stuffed around it and stores in the space under the v berth. It was $117 last year with shipping

Not sure about the 22's window--(which might be slightly smaller than the 25's), but the 5,000 BTU unit from WalMart (and I think ours was also Fridigere) worked very well on the EU 1000. We did use the bubble wrap/foil in the windows when it was super hot.

There are also the roll on, with exhuast, but they seem harder to store than the small window units. I agree, this seems like a fairly complicated solution to a problem which already has several good solutions.

Increasing daily. Wednesday is our hopeful target day for a cruise boat launch, if we keep up at this pace. We'll need a couple days for shakedown and crew training, then we're ready. Goodness knows, I'm ready already. :wink:
 
Picked up a Walmart 5000 AC, brought it into the cabin, placed it in the window, stuffed towels around it and DONE.

It is like the AC unit was made for that window size - perfect fit and very easy. Thanks for the heads up.

Now, I need to find a container that I can store the AC on the boat - something that fits it almost perfectly not to take up too much room.

Only a few nights are warm where we boat, but after 2 straight nights last year of no sleep because of the heat, this will take care of those nights.
 
Better yet, the AC fit perfectly between the fuel tanks. I'll just put it in a plastic bag and put foam strips under it to keep it out of the bilge. Main thing is it'll have its own spot.
 
Walmart has inexpensive large gray-colored plastic containers with a lid. My Walmart A/C fits right in; I use a bungee cord to secure the lid while under way. Keeps the salt water out.

With the A/C in the box, there is enough room along the sides of the container to put anything you need to use with the A/C in the front window to make everything airthight- foam strips, etc.

Check it out- the box might fit between the fuel tanks just as well as the A/C alone.
 
We used a plastic container we had on hand that fit the length and width of the a/c. The a/c was too tall to use the lid, but it gave us a place to put the a/c and the water that leaked out of it. We just put the container out in the cockpit while traveling.

Easy solution.
