A new C-Ranger

C-Brats,
Looks like we are the proud owners of a 25 ft C-Ranger. We received word from the factory that a C-Ranger was sent to Wefing Marine in East Point , Fl. I guess they got Crystal Rivers franchise. Mark ( the owner ) and Buzz ( the top salesman ) are good guys to deal with. We have traded in the Hunky Dory and got about what we would have sold it for. It just so happened the boat was equiped about the way we would have ordered it. Even the bow and stern thrusters. I hope we get a click going for us c-ranger guys to compare notes. This boat has a 125 horse Yanmar in it . They don't mention that in any paperwork. We have not taken possession yet because the are putting on the electronic package. I should have taken the information pac. just to have something to look at.

So far I would go way out of my way to do bussiness with Wefing. Seems like pretty straight.

We will keep you posted.

Congrats to you! 'Sounds exciting. What hull color and accent color?
We'd all like to hear about the day to day life with the new tugs.

John

Woo hoo, lucky you. The line was so long at the SBS I couldn't even get a look at it. Sure looked sweet though with the bicycle rack and kayaks on top. Congrats!!

What a thrill.... I looked that boat at the SBS over real well...and I think it's a real winner... what fun...I am real anxious to hear all about it's performance...it looks like it should move real well...and I love those thrusters.... hopefully you will trailer it some and someday we will meet on the water somewhere....
I have seen Wefings advertisements several places and those that have met them think they are a pretty good dealer.... what I like about them is that they contribute on this site....kinda like Les does.. I like hearing from the folks that sell and service the boats..

Congrats, Captd! Way to go! :thup

A buddy of mine up here in Duluth, MN bought the first C-Dory Wefings sold and said they're great to work with! Good to hear.

Have fun with the CR25! Same name - Hunky Dory?

I figure you have read the review of the boat in the current issue of Passagemaker. You probably want to check that when the boat is delivered to you it has the "fixes" on it.

I saw it and went aboard at the SBS and it is a very, very nice boat.

Good show on the new boat, I am sure you will have a great
time on it. Just one note however, knowing no one can read
all the books and manuals that come with a new boat.
I was reading the Yanmar 30hp book that came with the Ranger
21 tug and noticed there is quite a service checkup at 50
hours. Worth keeping in mind so you don't get into a long
adventure and the hour meter says 49.7. Little more than
a oil change but did look hard to do yourself if your inclined.
I did need a service book however and I got that ordered from
Tacoma Diesel local a local Yanmar dealer.
Again have fun and be careful. Bob Heselberg Eatonville Wa[/b]

Good News on the Tug purchase. Some great waters to spend your time in too while you are completing the breakin hours on the motor... You should love that boat. Tell Buzz, Marc, Lee and the gang in Eastpoint I said Hey!! Is your boat going to the Miami boat show or one from another FL C-Ranger dealer??

"I hope we get a click going for us c-ranger guys to compare notes."
Please keep it on this site when you do ??, its interesting to hear about the quirks and solutions and performance of all the C-Dory boats .. wc

Brydman , the boat going to Miami will be a Wefings boat. However it is already sold . Jeff M. and John L. will be there . Bruce P. , myself and Charlie too....
Marc

Wailedcentipede,
I'd vote for your "click" idea, although click may not be the right word.....it has negative connotations like exclusion of others. But a separate heading on this forum would be good, maybe one that John Livingston or someone from the company would monitor to answer questions. We have different issues, like stuffing box maintainance, that the C-Dory folks could care less about. How do we go about suggesting that?
Dave

C-Ranger Tug Owners: I agree that there are issues that will be different and eunique to the tugs, simply due to the inboard issues, but speaking for myself, I like the reading and education of the tug world, even if today I do not own one. It ain't like I will never buy another boat.... :teeth And, being sure to complete your individual profiles would also help us track the home ports of the hulls... and, sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly would also help us potential owners to look for particular things as we may purchase one. Never a perfect boat built.

All the "Tug Thugs" (now that was meant to rhyme...and be a bit of humor..pick another if ya wish... ) have to do is when they start a NEW TOPIC POST, is to start it with something you all agree on...

say like:

R-25 or R-21

and then follow it by what ever you want to talk about...

say like:

performance numbers

which would read

R-25 Performance Numbers
R-21 Performance Numbers
R-25 Engine Break In
R-21 Stuffing Box Maintainance

Now... just like all other boats.... folks might have to read these post for the information, and some information that might just cross-pollinate into what ever boat they own.

Good Stuff...and for sure I am watching the Tug Thug Talk.... Humm TTT?

I guess being raise around the Cumberland River and other working rivers, just watching the tugs go buy all the time sort of seems like I should just own and be part of one. A large part of my life enjoying wonderful vessels.

Still holding my breath for the Livingstons to build a big brother of the CR-21-EC on the hull of the CR-25. That would be sweet...

Maybe the simplest solution to dividing and categorizing the TUG information and posts would be to create a Forum Topic in the Library section to deal with Tug Technical Topics, so as to allow the accumulated information to be grouped for convenience, while the current discussions go on in just the normal manner for all to read.

The PUB topics will probably overlap, be integrated within, and be inseparable from the rest of the social yackity-yack (!)

My two mills ($0.002).

Joe.

We have been looking hard at the R-25 for sometime and saw hull #1 at the factory. We jumped off the fence at the SBS and put our money down for a June delivery boat: red hull and the 110 hp motor. We found John Livingston and the whole C-ranger staff very helpful and adaptable and looking forward to a great experience.

We are Puget Sound boaters and plan on doing a number of projects and installations ourselves.

We joined this chat hoping to learn more from the R-25 owners as we learn together about this boat. We have had two sailboats and this will be our third power boat but first diesel, so thank you for the comments about the Yanmar maintenance schedule and the need to get the shop manuals.

Any thoughts about the Raymarine C-80 versus the competition?

Welcome Laurie and John,

The C-80 has worked just dandy for Pat/Patti on Daydream and myself for two years. Got us both up to Ketchikan and back with no problems. I think Pat does some downloading and uploading with some software that he can do waypoints and routes and then download them into the C-8o. I think he says it is easier, with the larger screen on a computer to see the big picture as he does it.

We appreciate the positive comments about the C-80. In addition, we are looking at the Furuno package and new Garmin package. We are not fisherman, just cruisers and crabbers, so we are looking at a digital depth sounder and perhaps adding radar later. Furuno has the reputation but the they sell a complete package and the cost is higher, Garmin is new to the radar market but we like their chartplotters, lots of chat on the Raymarine product but lots of units are out there.

We intend to hook the GPS feature into the both the auto pilot and the VHF radio.

Thank you for the personalized thoughts and lessons learned.

The Raymarine C-80 is a fine system. I've seen it in use with auto pilot and it seems to do a great job. I was considering buying one when I'm ready to add radar. However...

I saw the new 2007 Garmin products at the boat show and I must say I'm impressed. The 4208 and 4008 seem to have been built to compete with the C-80, possibly the E-80 and I almost pulled the trigger on buying one through Boaters World at the boat show. They were taking pre-orders at a price of $1711, more than $300 of MSRP.

The display is beautiful and the new radome, the GMR-18 is sized the same as the Raymarine radome and I believe it's 4kw as opposed to 2kw for the same price. So it doesn't look like the large pancake radomes they first came out with.

I have Garmin now and like it's intuitiveness, really simple to figure out without reading the whole manuel. Good luck in your search. Outfitting a new boat is lots of fun! :D
