Advice for trim/tilt-less 40 evinrude

The new-to-me 16 ft angler I just bought came with manual tilt. It is an 89, so it only has a 3 position lower actuator selection, and a manual valve that allows a person to lower (not easily raise) the motor. Wondering if anyone has had that system, and what trim was finally discovered as the best. I've not yet taken the boat out cause my border collie dog became gravely ill and I was trying to take care of her, rather than the boat. My girl lost her struggle :( , so I'm trying to get tips on best rigging found for trimless motors prior to some water time. I'll probably try to find a trim unit once I find out if the motor is adequate for the angler. Hard to get interested right now while the shock of my lost gal wears down a bit. :sad Thanks for your suggestions. Ron

Ron, very sorry about your loss. Pups can become such friends, a part of the family... :dog :love

Once you can deal with it, put the boat in the water and try it out. It may be set at the best position right now. Good luck and keep us posted.

sorry to hear about your pup Ron
we went through that a couple of years ago not much fun

about the trim on your motor I have the same system on the 1992 50hp evenrude I looked at a new trim system but the cost was a bit much to spend on such an old motor

some where in the photo,s there is a pic of a ss handle that clamps on engine cover not a bad solution.

I have the same t/t unit on my 91 40 hp, it's called manual assist, and when working correctly, made the motor easy to lift. They don't last long, are not repairable, and are no longer made. The solution is the motor lifting handle as mentioned that fits on the motor cover and gives extra leverage. The other solution is to install a CMC electric Trim/ Tilt bracket, a very nice product.
