Autopilot advice

I have been searching through the forums as I am looking to put in an autopilot for my CD22.

I already have a Lowrance HDS8 chartplotter and Simrad RC42 rate compass. I also have an octopus 1212 pump.

I am wondering which of the following options makes the most sense:

Raymarine s1000 (though I hear reports that it does not work well at trolling speeds)
Garmin GHP10 or 12 system
Simrad AP12 or 24 system.

any other suggestions

I am not sure which parts I would need to get to make this work...

I assume that you have hydraulic steering--so you have the ram--you have the pump and rate compass, so the Simrad 24 control head makes the most sense, along with the AC 12 control pac. I believe that you can interface the AP 24 to the HDS directly--maybe require an adopter cable. Also need the hydraulic tubings. You will also need the sim-net multi joiner connector system and cables. You should not need a rudder feedback system.

The AP 24 is an excellent pilot, especially for the outboard powered boat.

First I would download the AP 24 user manual:

and the Installation manual"

I could not get the first link to work, but the second one was fine.
I am leaning towards the AP24/AC12 system to go with my existing pump and rate compass.

I would go with the simrad for the fishing. It will bottom track a depth. In other words if you set it for 200 ft it will follow, within a range or error, the bottom at 200 ft. It is the unit I want when I have the money to dedicate to it. That said I have about $1500 in to Susan's garden that i just built. :sad
