Back With Another C-Dory

I've missed my 22ft Snoopy-C, so I had to get another C-Dory. Because of the rave reviews I've seen on the 16ft anglers, I found one fairly local and made the purchase without even trying it. It is a 1989 with 125 hours... The low use is nice, but it has aged quite a bit on the gel coat, and I'm trying to bring back the shine. It is not too checked, but extremely dull. I've tried various compounds but it doesn't seem to be bringing her back as nice as I'd like. What is the best route to go. Snoopy was so shiny and nice, I never had to do anything but wash and wax her. Thanks for your input...hope that the 16 angler lives up to what I've heard on this site about em. Ron, aka "digger"

I'll have to figure out a name for the little gal.

Welcome back. We had a sailboat that had a black stripe on it that went flat fairly quick. I was able to bring the shine back with 303 protectant. Then several coats of a good wax. Try it on an inconspicuous spot first.

We recently boat a 2005 22 Cruiser that had been stored in Alaska near some trees and bush without a cover.
We have been using Car Beauty Pro Rv, Boat & Aircraft Wax to bring it back. Its a mild cleaner wax. Its sold in most boat and marine stores here in B.C. The hull had a yellow tint to it so we used Starbrite's hull cleaner to get rid of it. Then we have been using Collinite's Fleetwax to bring back the shine. This combination is working well for us.

Thanks for the input. Seems like low hours is no guarantee that a boat, etc. will be in pristine shape. Lots of work to do to bring it back, including some corrosion issues on the steering and motor. :sad

The most highly recommended fiberglass cleaner (on this site, anyway) is Collinite No. 920. It removes dirt, film, oxidation, discoloration, oil, grease, rust, exhaust stains, and according to the bottle, even "etc". I get it off the net in 1/2 gallon jugs. Easy to apply and it lasts a long time. Follow with Collinite's Fiberglass Wax No. 925 and you'll be ready to show 'er off.

Hey Marty,

Where do you find the best deals on Collinite products? I'm just starting to look, and find the shipping costs seem to kill any online savings.

Hey Ron - Good on you! I knew you wouldn't be able to stand it!

I have used the 3M Restorer Wax with good results. It is a lot of work but it sure looks good when finished. Buy a pack of the Costco terry towels, a bottle of the 3M stuff, and get after it. You smear it on and keep rubbing until it is all rubbed in and wiped off. You don't let it dry to a haze and buff like traditional wax. There is rubbing compound in it and you know it's working because it turns the rag the color of your boat. I tired using a cheapo orbiting buffer but found the restorer works best by hand. I think they reccomend straight strokes and doing small areas at a time. They all say to do small areas, but with this stuff they mean it unless you are a lot younger than me.

I have a bottle of the Collinite Boat Cleaner 920 but I haven't tried it yet.

Have fun and we'll watch for the pictures.

Speaking of pictures, I just looked at the ones you already stuck in your album. Unless you did a whole lot of work on the red stripe before the first pic, it isn't bad at all. The 3M stuff should do it easy. You won't even need all 48 of the Costco towels.
