Hello Folks, I am the proud new owner of a 16' angler. I am new to the forum and will provide lots of entertainment with silly questions. Love my boat.

I will be boating in Tahoe this weekend and they do inspections. There is a plug on the vertical surface of the step between the cockpit proper and the back deck. I believe it is for ballast. I've tried to insert a photo without success.

Ballast is defined as "heavy material, such as gravel, sand, iron, or lead, placed low in a vessel to improve its stability." There is no ballast in a C-Dory with the occasional exception of an owner or occupant who isn't pulling their weight. :lol:

I think you mean "bilge" - "the lowest compartment on a ship, below the waterline, where the two sides meet at the keel." There's not much bilge space in a C-Dory but there is usually a slight depression in the cockpit floor where water can gather. On the stern there is typically a plug that can be pulled to drain the boat. The typical use of this plug is to pull it after the boat is removed from the water so that any water which has gathered in the boat can drain. Then, if the boat is left outdoors, the boat should be stowed bow high with the plug pulled so that any rainwater which finds its way into the boat will drain out the back.
 
Yes my 22 has the same twist out plug. It is to drain water if it somehow gets into the cabin. With the plug in place, cockpit water can't migrate into the cabin.
