I prefer the heavy stuff LCG (low center of gravity) I did this just last year after one of my fancy spiral AGM batteries croaked :| the new pix are in my album - "untitled" im not sure the album accepted a rename yet so i ain't linking it for now.

The thing different I did the last few months was replace that undersized breaker (in pic) with a off/on battery switch :idea: I wanted to get away from more tentacles on my boat (cables and clutter) so i went with a big old 8D single :love so far so good mon! :mrgreen:

Also when the snow melts, I'll put new upgrades not in the pic for later - it's a built-in 12 v 20 amp charger :smilep this is all working wonderful :) since i always have on the boat, a tiny portable gen.

More things in store include remounting the inverter back there next! to further rid the boat of "tentacles" and even more weight :idea

ttfn, i hope this contributes ? maybe I should not have a puny 70 trying to keep charged a big old 8D battery ?? but like i sed - it works :xtongue
 
Greg let us know how the kicker responds mph on your 22 classic now that its lost some weight . also how does the yamaha 70 do mph,mpg etc.

Good job with battery .I have the cc-23 with a f-115yamaha thinking about going with a 3-4 hp kicker
 
Hi Greg hope all is well I see you have the 3 1/2 hp tohatsu how does that push your c22 classic and what do you think it weighs now ? I remember you telling me to go for the f-115 when I was repowering in 05 my cd-22 cruiser I actually went with a suzuki 90 which was really a 100hp (06)

Now I own a cape cruiser 23 with a f-115 If I was to repower I might put on twin 60's .anyway let us know weight and speeds with 70hp and kicker when you get out again
 
so far so good on both engines; with a merc 12P ss vengeance prop, the 70 goes between 26+ to 29 mph depending on water and load. 5500 rpm will give me a cruise speed of 24-25 mph :) The 3.5 works great for trolling 2-3 kts, between 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, and WOT can get up to 4 knots of speed. 2.7 hours of trolling usually burns less than a quart of fuel.

I'm consistently getting over 5 mpg under way. Am hoping to see better as soon as the bottom paint is removed
