Hello everyone,

There are always such superb pieces of info on this site including where to buy certain things (for example, the best price on the Honda 1k & 2k generators I ever saw was thru a topic posted here shortly ago) I wondered if anyone can tell me where to get a 6 hp Tohatsu, 15" shaft, new, manual start, for less than $1225.00, "out the door". I found that deal at outboardmotors.com

Thanks!
Jeff

It looks like you have already done an internet search. The best I can find is $1245 with free shipping. You didn't mention the shipping on the $1225.

Cabelas: Nissan $1369.00 55lbs. FREE shipping. C-Otter

A word of warning on internet motor "deals" . In order for a motor to have a warranty it is required to have a Pre Delivery Inspection filed with the manufacturer [ PDI] by an authorized dealer . Any dealer that did not sell the motor will charge you for it [ the P.D.I.] which would probably negate the savings . Also you will go way to the back of the line for service as no local service center will have any vested interest in you as a customer . We are a Tohatsu dealer and we are able to match the online "deals" . You might try a local dealer to see if they will price match ........

As expected, all very wonderful and thoughtful replies.
The motor price I quoted was "out the door" meaning they do not charge tax nor do they charge shipping.
The dealer's insight was very thoughtful also. I shall drop by and see if they 'meet' the deal, or nearly so unless someone finds a killer deal in the mean-time.

I can not resist this...

C-Pelican: If you do not find it at your local dealer (not sure just how many dealers carry that motor...no pun intended).... and you are not in a hurry... just come join us down on the Gulf Coast for a gathering some weekend in the spring, buy it from Wefings, PDI/break it in fishing, drain er out, stick it in a duffle bag, and check er as luggage. OK...so you will have to pay the $25 over weight fee, but so do I when I travel with a cooler of BBQ.

Of course...I am always looking for a way/reason for a gathering and meet new C-Dory folks.

Byrdman,

Point taken.
It is always hard to expose thoughts, they are easily ribbed....

Keep an eye out though, I am a wanderer and if we meet, I will tell you the end of my o/b story...over some beer and wine....

We have already met Jeff, and I can assure Byrdman that he is a true C Brat type! However, I doubt if the airline will allow an outboard in the luggage--as much as we would enjoy having Jeff at the next Florida gathering.

I'll have to take Marc up on that meeting any internet deal! 6 hp Tohatsu at $1225 including tax....

You can also order from Porta-Bote International (800-227-8882). They say they will match any price. I would personally rather support a local dealer but I have called several locals for a 6 HP Tohatsu short shaft, and all I get are retail prices of around $1600 plus tax. Everyone else (internet) is selling for $1225 including shipping and no tax. I asked one dealer about the Pre Delivery Inspection requirement for the warranty to be in effect, he said that Internet sales were exempt of this requirement. May be a bunch of bull, I don't know, but I am going to find out before I buy.

If anyone knows of a C-Dory Dealer who is willing to meet/match the $1225 no tax/shipping included offer, let me know and I will buy from them.

Thanks for the input John

If a local dealer sold it to you with "no tax" , they would have to sell it at $1134.00 (at 8% sales tax) to leagally do that.(they would still have to pay the state tax to the state, at least here in WA.)
