I need to buy a small car -- probably Mazda or Honda -- for my oldest daughter. I'd like to hear what has worked well for Brats who have used the Internet to find the best deal. My daughter is in another state so I would ideally like to be able to do the deal from here and have her pick it up there.

Thanks,
Warren

I've used both autobytel and carsdirect.com and don't really have a preference between them. I've bought my last 4 vehicles from these two sources and received excellent pricing, convenience and local delivery. In general, the pricing was well below what I could talk a local dealer into and in some cases I was able to get a car with options that I couldn't find at a local dealer.

There was no negotiation, no "I'll have to ask my manager", no BS period. I was just like ordering a pizza. I got a price online, made the order and it showed up later. The only difference (relative to pizza) was that I had to pick it up. I'll never buy a new car any other way. I think I used carsdirect.com for the last 2 or 3 as I was able to get more cars priced out online with them than with autobytel. Sometimes (depending mostly on make) you get referred to a local dealer who provides the quote. I'd rather get a firm commitment online when possible.
