Big results from a little kicker

Here is a post from Cruisers Forum, linked below, about pushing a ten ton sailboat with a Suzuki 2.5 HP.

I have posted before about having a transmission fail going into Brest France. I dropped a 10' hard dinghy over the side, and lashed it on the port quarter, with the 4.5 hp Evinrude (best motor I have ever owned), it got the 32 ton 62 foot boat up to over 2.5 knots--gave us steerage way and progress as the current began to ebb. We got the 13' inflatable, inflated and in the water, with a 25 hp outboard going and pushed the boat right along at 5 knots. Some breeze came up and we increased the speed to over 6 knots under sail. Called the Harbor master, and explained the situation--asked if they had a launch to standby, and a space for us to dock--The launch was a 13' Boston Whaler, with a 25 hp--and the space was about 65 feet long--we sailed right in--with plenty of people to catch lines at the dock. No help from the "tender" needed.

I have used small outboards to move big boat on dinghies many times.

No excuse for a sail boat not to sail--But the suzuki is a powerhouse of 2.5 HP.

I blew up a 70 hp Yamaha at fort Ross after launching in bodega bay about 25 miles away. Used a Nissan 3.5 2 stroke to get back took about 7-8 hours and had to fill the little gas tank 5 times but we made it back safely.. figured towing wouldn’t have been any faster... I still have that great little motor, haven’t run it since but I bet it would still start in 3 pulls or less ! Sure saved my bacon that day.
