Bitter end in anchor rode locker

On our '99 22' Cruiser we have for the first time a locker for the anchor rode. Is there a recommended method for securing the bitter end inside the locker? Thanx, Bill

Although you could mount an eyelet to tie the rode to on the wall of the bulkhead that makes up the rear of the anchor locker, it's much easier to make a large disc out of plywood, drill a sufficently large hole in it, stick the end of the rode through it, and then tie a knot in it.

This obviously blocks it from going out the deck pipe or windlass exit.

Easy to disassemble to change the rode, too.

I'd treat the plywood with wood preservative or, better yet, paint it throughly to prevent delamination from water.

Better yet, ,make it from plastic that won't fracture or rot ;, e.g., Starboard or HDPET{cutting board material}, or Micarta.

I stole Rana Verde's method. We all have a towing eye through bolted into the anchor locker. I found an eyelet with the same bolt size/threads and threaded it onto the end of the towing eye bolt then tied the rode bitter end to that eye. Ya can't get much simpler .

I tied a Monkeys Fist on the end of my rode to keep it inside the rode locker. Seeing as I have a 16’ Cruiser and because of the design of my rode locker I did not have the option of tying it off to anything. It seems to me it would work for any rode locker. I used a small (1 ¼”) plastic ball for the inside of the Monkeys Fist. The balls are free in every can of Guinness Beer.

I took the nut off one of the the thru-bolts for the anchor roller and replaced it with a SS threaded eye and just tied off to that. In other words the eye has no shank, but instead a threaded hole which screws onto the bolt. WM has them, I believe the manufacturer is Wichard.

I find that on my boat (a '99 22' Cruiser), the inner portion of the towing eye was glassed-in during manufacture. The only exposed hardware in the locker corresponds to the stanchions and the roller mount. I think I'll go with Al's suggestion re the threaded eye on one of the roller mount bolts.
