Does any have any idea if a smaller C-dory sold 20 years ago for say $15,000, and if you put the same boat on the market today, (and all other things being equal) what would be it's value now?

So this is really a questions about (a) whether C-dory's appreciate of go down in value over time (condition of boat held constant) and (b) inflation or changes in buying power of the dollar.

Say bought a used 19' Angler, for $15k, then stored it away in a garage. 20 years ago. you haven't touched it since.

You roll it out today to sell it. Still worth $15k? More? Less?

At this point, because of multiple factors, the older boats seem to be appreciating. For example my 1993 C Dory 22, sold for $25,000 when new. It was sold 3 x before owned it for $25,000. I sold it for slightly less because of an oil pump issue with a Fitch Evinrude. That motor was eventually replaced and a newer motor was installed. Several years ago a friend bought that same boat for $25,000. If I were to sell it today, I would ask $35,000 and probably get in the high 20's. More than the $25,000 I paid, and what the boat cost new.

Now the value of the dollar comes into play. A dollar in 1993's currency is worth $1.86 in today's currency. So had the boat appreciated or not? The dollar has inflated, and it will inflate more rapidly in the next few years.

My boat was 28k new in the early 90s. It's worth more now. But is this really appreciation? Not really...28k is more like 80-90k in these times. A boat as an investment isn't one.

It seems from what you all are saying... that regardless "inflation", a C-dory could sell for about the SAME numerical dollar amount 20 years later (if in about the same condition)...

Like: Bought for $25k in 2000. Kept in a garage and not used. Sold for $25k in 2020...

Sound about right?

I think you are onto something there. Yes, and indoor storage is really an investment in keeping your investment in great shape.

Yup, sounds about right. Mine is garage kept and still has that nice mirror like gelcoat finish. I have an unrestored pickup (well cared for) that I drive daily from the 70s.....If one takes care of stuff it is amazing how long it will take care of you.
