Boating Safety Courses

I just completed (and passed) the boating course offered by the US Power Squadron.
It was a fun and informative 8 week course, one night a week.
My reason for taking the course was to get the premium discount on my boat insurance, but came away with a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed plotting the courses on the charts. Since we have GPS and digital charts, we never used the charts except to identify coves not listed on the GPS.
I would recommend the course for everyone, not just the "newbies"

Congratulations and I agree -- you get even more out of those courses if you've been boating awhile. If you liked the Power Squadron course, you might want to look into the Coast Guard Auxiliary course on Advanced Coastal Navigation. The textbook is excellent, and if you have a good, experienced instructor it can be a really good course. Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?

I'm curious; Is Martha's Vineyard still the chart of choice for the navigation course? Having taken those courses years past, it's amazing how many times of charted courses around Martha's Vineyard without ever having set eyes in the area. It was fun.
