Broughtons and Desolation Sound

Hello everyone,

We have been absent from the Forums for a while but just wanted to make a quick report on our annual trip to BC. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit with Andy, one of the owners of Mink Island. We really enjoyed the salt water wood fired hot tub and the great hospitality.

Accompanied by my brothers 67' Tolly "The Mothership" or "Global Warmer", we made our first visit to the Broughtons. Fantastic fishing and great scenery.
Check our album for some photos.

Very nice !! Gorgeous area to cruise. We've been in Desolation for a week and been blessed with mostly sunny days and winds 10 knots or so. Huge lightning show over Melanie Cove a few days back. Wow. Just pulled in to Gorge Harbor and it is really nice. On approach I called for space and was told to "stand by" for incoming reserved boats. I was called about 10 minutes later to come on in. Just as we got into the marina area the water 100 yards out exploded! Dolphins! Lots of 'em. We were already too close so went to idle then shut down. There were at least 100 animals chasing feed. They moved down harbour after a while so we came in. They were bombing about the harbour for at least 2 hours. What stamina. We're enjoying a slow pace. A couple days each place. Carolyn went snorkeling for her first time ever in lovely Melanie cove in the shallows off "dog poop island". Really it has a name sign. Pretty spot non the less and 71f water and very clear. Felt good in the heat to soak. Kerri On is 100% and running great. Fuel is $1.56 or more per litre but we still can run around all week on a $100. Just had a 160 footer pull in for lunch. $100 wouldn't get him across the harbour. Having a blast. Carolyn has graduated to expert waterman status While cruising 14 knots this morning she went out and swept the cockpit rugs out and did her banking on the Iphone when we found coverage Used to be she got a bit quesy at 14 in 1 ft plus chop Not anymore!! Carolyn and George

Looks like a great trip, Brian and Ann. What an inviting photo.

George and Carolyn: Sounds fantastic (I was surprised to read about the 71º water and snorkeling - wow!). It's great when you are a confirmed boater and meet someone who isn't (wasn't, rather :D) and then they really take to it :thup
