C-Dog

Ok so I have to throw in my two cents here.. We have three Aussies , One Shepherd and One Aussie/Border Collie mix. We adopted the Mixed Aussie/Collie. She's a real sweet heart . Lives to please and be loved ! We haven't taken her on the boat for only one reason. She was a rescue dog. So leaving home scares her to death. She was about 6 months we went took her in. If I had gotten her as a puppy she'd be a traveling dog ! :D I vote Mini Aussie or Mini Border Collie ! :o

Not if I have anything to say about it  ! Ike and Barry Goldwater are looking better and better to this dyed-in-the-wool liberal / libertarian.

Hello,
Sorry for the loss of your dog. We boat with a Wheaten Terrier and the very loyal breed has no hair but has fur. No shedding at all. An occassional (2-3 month) grooming is all that is required. He loves the water and will sit around or play at the master's desires. Hope this helps.

If you want a real boat dog consider a Schipperke (sp?) Belgium barge dogs--wonderful, small dogs and very seaworthy. Don't have some of the disposition or stuberness of some other small breeds. We have never owned one, but have known a number of boaters who have had them full time on boats.

We also are sorry for your loss, and understand. We are down to one rescued dog--a Pomaranian/Papplion mix--not a bad combo--but lots of hair. We tend to either Labs or rescued dogs.

Here's the best picture I could find on our mix, whatever it is. Would sure like to know!
Rusty!

Birds are easy to come by. I see a lot of boaters getting them. Usually while dawdling at the launch ramp.... :wink

the best dogs really are mutts. They are nearly always free, generally more intelligent and healthier than over-bred (ie, in-bred) "pure" breeds, better disposition, etc..

Does the Miniture Schnauzer require much coat maintenance?

Nope.... I have her clipped 3 or 4 times a year...they have hair not fur so folks that are alergic to dog fur can have Schnauzers... They are rough and tough...smart..easy to train and earger to please...
I have owned 4 Schnauzers in my life...the first one lived to 19 but I think the normal live span is about 16-17 years.

Absolutely Great Dogs.....

If I was into hang gliding ole Rox would want to do it....
