C-Dory 14

I was watching the Seattle Boat Show thread this past weekend and saw the discussion about Master Marine. It was mentioned that they still had the 14' C-Dory for sale. I've lusted after that little boat since I saw the Reynolds boys pull up in one at a C-Brats gathering about 5-6 years ago.

With absolutely no rational reason to do it, I called Master Marine on Saturday, they quoted a price and I wanted to send them a check right then and there. I thought I'd sleep on it, but the urge didn't go away on Sunday. I'm headed out of town until the first of March so I couldn't go see the boat. I was close to buying it anyway but I couldn't get myself to do it without seeing it.

So.... I called Tom of Starcrafttom, he agreed to go look at it Monday morning. He gave his approval so I called Master Marine and sent them a deposit check.

If everything goes well, by the first of March I will leave my auxiliary status and once again become a full C-Brat member. Many thanks to Tom for coming through one more time to sell a C-Dory.

Here is a photo album of the new 14. I have to applogize to Lyle. I have been trying to send Photos to lyle all week but I cant get them to send and have not had time to figure it out. so I have posted a few pics here.

Congratulations, Lyle! I gotta say, these boats often get called "cute", but that is just cuter than cute. Will you carry that around on your Westcoast? I remember seeing that with the Reynolds in Roche Harbor just after we picked up Wild Blue.

Very cool! :thup :thup

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Jim, I hope to tow it behind the Westcoast. I have my deck space covered and it is just a little too big to carry on davits on the swim step.

Tom, thanks for the pictures. It looks in good shape, just like your description.

Tom,
Thanks for posting the pictures. They are my first view of the boat and it looks good, you were conservative in your description. It's even got the blue striping that matches Bessie.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I do know it was on consignment from a woman who's husband had died. I believe it may not have been used for a couple of years. Dealer said they ran it in a lake and changed out to the correct prop.

I saw this boat last spring when we were looking for a boat. It was the first c-dory that I had ever seen up close and personal. Thought it was pretty cute but a bit small for what we wanted. It looked to be in very good shape, though.

Hi Lyle, congrats on the 14. If you don't mind me asking, how much was it? Still trying to scheme entry level to the C-Dory Madness. :disgust

Lyle,

Here's a photo that you took of a 14CD at the Blakely CBGT back in '04. You will notice that Joe is also lusting after it. Your new purchase will certainly make a great tender for your mother ship.

BTW, Congratulations :thup

Sam, since the deal still has to be completed, I don't want to say the exact price. However, the boat was at $8,000, then they sold the kicker off of it and reduced the price substantially. I don't know why you would need a kicker with a 30 hp main, but I have a 5 hp dingy motor that I could use if needed.

Ruth and Joe, thank you for that picture. It shows that this boat is a pure toy. I have been looking at 16's to tow as a fishing boat. A 16 might have been a good decision as they're big enough to go anywhere by themselves. However I think the 14 will work well as an all weather dingy. The 14 was an emotional decision based on cuteness. I haven't made that kind of decision in about 40 years.

Hi Lyle. Thanks. I understand. It sounds like I missed it again. :cry I will get there eventually.

Congrats w/ your decision in going for the 14. I would be very interested in hearing about your reactions and experiences w/ the 14 as you spend some time w/ your new toy. :thup

I was just thinking how much the 14 Sea Skiff at the boat show is trying to look like this boat, but the finish work was nowhere near the quality of the C-Dory.

Same "cute" factor. :smiled

Matt,
I think looking at the 14 Sea Skiff is what got me motivated to check out the little C-Dory. I agree about the fit and finish. The C-Dory seems like a finished boat, the Skiff looked like a prototype.

So, I went and finalized the purchase of the little 14' at Master Marine yesterday. They were easy to deal with, but I think Tom's description of them was spot on. I then took it to Les at EQ Harbor Service to service the engine, put on a keel guard and check the boat over for any problems.

I want to say another thank you to Tom, the boat was just as described, and I didn't get any surprises when I saw it for the first time. The boat is an '02 and the trailer is an '08. It doesn't look like the trailer has ever been in the water. Except for a few scratches to the gel coat, the boat looks lightly used too. I'll post some pictures later.

Tom, I owe you a dinner. I'll call you next time we're headed up your way.
