Hello,

We are interested in having a C-Dory gathering here in Guttenberg, Iowa.

Guttenberg is a historic river town located at Lock & Dam #10 on the Mississippi River.

Guttenberg borders with Wisconsin (across the river), not far up river is the Minnesota border and not far down river is the Illinois border (across from Dubuque, Iowa).

This part of the Mississippi is protected with high bluffs and is very scenic.

We do not have a clue how these events work.

We would like member’s input on what should be considered, what is involved, what makes a memorable gathering and any other thoughts or ideas.

Just for fun; How many would be interested in attending a gathering here on the Mississippi, River?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hi Donna,

I am not you best choice for advice on a gathering from the host point of view...and I have only had the opportunity to attend one event...but as of next week I will be heading to my 3rd...in the Panhandle of Florida. I know how to eat, drink and be happy with all my fellow C-Brats to the utmost.

Like any event, you have to do as you have done here. That is toss out the idea...and watch and help it form into reality. Having dockage, lodging and food is the main ingredients along with a time of the year...when the majority of the folks and the water conditions and weather are in line. That is a lot to ask for but not insurmountable.

Being so far from you and still a working stiff, I would not be able to attend, but I sure would like to see the pictures from your event...and I am sure you will be hearing from folks here real soon. Planning well ahead of time is very important.

Once you have a date and location, ask the management here to post you a signup sheet and keep the conversation going…generate interest and ideas.

Hello Connie, Ron & Bear aboard C -R Dory !
We're downstream from you folks (Dubuque), and I"m amazed we haven't seen you on the river. In answer to your question; it's easy getting the C-Brats together. By posting the kind of message you just did will get people interested and generally the plan will materialize on it's own, with a little bit of guidance and direction from the host/hostess . Give us an idea of what/when you're thinking about and I'm quite certain we'll be there, and most likely other Brats will soon chime in to express their interest. We get to Guttenberg often, via car and boat, so we're very familiar with your cruising grounds. If we can be of any assistance in this effort, please let us know. I'll shoot you an email, and we can chat about it further.

Hello Paul & Joni From Guttenberg,

Thank you for your message.

Our life has never been the same since picking up a 1983, C-Dory, 22’ cruiser in Houston, Tx the third week of February.

After three and a half months of restoration, complete with a new interior and trailer, the boat changed from a much unloved, neglected condition to a delight (photos as soon as our album is in place).

If you are well aquatinted with Guttenberg, then you probably know where I live.

Our home is at the entrance to the south landing (see gettenbergbedandbath.com) which is a totally restored 1840 Greek Revival (brick) house which took Connie (as general contractor) and several crews of craftsmen a full year to complete.

Anyway we are open to sponsor a brats cook out (at least), get together, sometime next summer.

Peoples schedules do get full early, so a consensus from the readers concerning the best month/dates would be welcome.

Please advise.

Regards,

Connie, Ron & Bear Fisher
