Several days ago my wife Carol and her quilting partner showed me the brochure for a "Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop". This is an annual event sponsored by numerous Quilt Shops, in which participants must visit at least 16 participating Quilt Shops in a 5 day period. At each visit the participant gets their "game card" rubber stamped and part or all of the fabric for a specific quilt block that can then be joined together to make a quilt. The completed card is due in no later than 1700 HRS on Sunday. Soon after, a drawing of the properly completed cards are made and numerous prizes are awarded.
On Wednesday they drove up North in the car and worked their way back home and compiled 15 stamps.
When I read about this and saw the communities that were accessible by boat, I suggested that we cruise to those communities so they could get some of their stamps (and of course a bit more C-Dory time for me... ).
Yesterday, Carol, her quilting partner, partner's husband and I launched "Sea Shift" at 0900 in Everett and cruised to Kingston and while we secured the boat, the "girls" zipped up to the quilt shop, got their cards stamped, picked up the block fabric and then we continued on to the next destination. Next stop was Poulsbo, then Port Orchard, and then Winslow. We ran out of time and were unable to include Langley, Coupeville and Oak Harbor, but of course they already had more than the required 16 stamps. It was just a fun way to spend the day and gave our close/longtime friends/neighbors a taste of our life on the water in a C-Dory and a chance to see ports of call from a different perspective.
( Just add this to the list of "things to do with a C-Dory").
Incidentally we saw a few husbands sitting on benches outside the quilt shops, obviously bored and not happy about being "drug around" by their wives on this quest. I had to chuckle because I would certainly have been the same way had I done it by car (and I wouldn't have done it....
), but by boat it was a hoot!
Now tonight I get to "SCORE" more "points" :wink with my wife by taking her to dinner and a movie in celebration of our anniversary . (Actually, tomorrow is the anniversary, but I'm working then).
