C Pelican bottom paint

Hello everyone,

Since you all, several years with the C Pelican, books (Hinz, Chapman) and a USPS class are my total knowledge base for boats...(well, the honor of buying it from Dr Bob was an added plus from the detailed directions he gave me (in writing and hand's on ) and as this site turned me on to C Dorys and I found mine here...I thought I'd show you the damage you caused by sharing all your knowledge.... :wink

After being quite hesitant to paint the boat bottom myself, getting a few quotes from painters got me over that worry, and viola, reading your experiences and tips here "got 'er done"

Raised the paint line due to it being too low in the first place so I sanded and primered that area.
The rest, I just jacked up the boat while on the trailer, put some wood blocks underneath to support it and painted two coats of black (the locals tell me (?) black is best here in SoCal) marine paint.
One quart per coat.
The small diameter rollers were a god-send! I think they call them "hot dogs"?

Then jacked up the boat again, removed the blocks, painted those areas and then set her down on wax paper to protect it and after a short dry period (Huntington Beach is not so hip to boats being painted in neighborhoods on the street) I launched her.

We'll see how it holds up.

Thanks to the paint posters all these years who slowly convinced me to do it myself.

Jeff

p.s. It was much easier than I thought to paint it.
