C-Ranger Dropped From C-Dory Web Site

Well, I think there is SOMETHING up here, I just compared the C-Ranger Tug ad in the March Motorboating with the ad in the February PassageMaker...now missing is the line that says "C-Ranger is a division of C-Dory Marine Group" - now NO apparent connection except the letter "C" before the word "Tugs"! The C-Ranger web site also has no mention of C-Dory Marine Group, but says the sales effort is lead by Jeff Messmer. Looks like some kind of split has occurred. C-Dory without Jeff Messmer will not be the same for sure...I'm sure we will get all the details in due course.

If Ranger tugs and C-Dory have indeed gone their separate ways, I hope we Ranger owners will still be welcome on C-Brats. I have already learned so much from this group and hope to be a part of this community for years to come.

I've spoken with one of the company representatives regarding this, but I don't have all the details.

I'm not going to divulge the specifics of a private conversations I've had, but I do encourage anyone who wants more details regarding this issue to contact C-Dory or C-Ranger instead of speculating here. Those of you attending the Miami Boat Show can probably get all the info you want from the representatives in attendance there.

My take on it from the person I spoke with, was there was zero animosity between the two companies, and they are still on very friendly terms. It was presented to me, as strictly a business decision that both parties were in agreement with. No harsh words were spoken, and in fact nothing but praise was mentioned for "the other" company.

How's that for vague?

Oh - and yeah, you C-Ranger guys can stick around, but given how deep your pockets must be to afford those fancy-schmancy boats, we're doubling your C-Brat dues...

I didn't ask the hard questions...of the C-Dory folks but I did get the same answer. It was a business choice that suited each player. I did suggest that the players form a joint statement and post it here to stop the speculating and rumor mill before it starts.

On a personal level I "speculate" that the Ranger Tug is preparing to market to the GB Club and Nordic Tub...(sp) folks and that they didn't wish to be assocated with us Pofolk (Empty) Pocket Trawlers.

I understand this view from a marketing point. It would be nice to have the Ranger folks as members of this group if for no other reason then to get an invite every now and then for a sleep over.

Bill,

Thanks for the update on the future direction of the two companies. I wasn't trying to start rumors but was quite surprised when the link dropped off the C-Dory site. Kim and I are seriously investigating purchasing a CR 25. We have so enjoyed our association with C-Dory and the C-Brats that we are hoping the future means only good waters ahead.

I echo Lizzy G in hoping that CR 21 / 25 people can stayed tied into the C-Brat site. Afterall many of us who are interested in the Rangers discovered them through this site and C-Dory.

When I inquired at SeaRay what is happening I did not get any clear indication of the future. I do hope Jeff M. will update us all on this site. He definately has a heart for customer service.

Mike: Sorry I missed you man...but was way over on the other docks at the time you were with Marc/Wefings.

Yes, I did see the hole C-Dory/C-Ranger gang... WOW...you talking about neon legs!!!!  I can now safely forget about being slammed for my crocks on the docs... :smiled :thup And to protect the innocent in this case...Tom Latham and Bruce Perkins had on long pants....but as for Scot, Jeff and John... well... let's get this party started!! Unfortunately, I understand that Daddy Dav Livingston was also down there...but I did not get the pleasure of seeing him again. He could have been looking for a vendor with 3 pairs of long pants....or some of that rub on sun tan stuff.

There has to be lines for some country song in this.... Well... OK, I guess you would have just had to have been there.

Words will be out soon I feel sure... and we all have to realize that this is more than likely the very busiest time of year with all the boat shows taking place...

And I too feel that there will always be a tie between the two C-Ranger and C-Dory. Not sure why they are not sharing the synergy of the two.....but, who knows. Not sure of a lot of things of late.

Kim and I have made the plunge and are scheduled for a May production of a CR-25 Tug.

The great news is that Jeff M is still invested in C-Dory and is full time at C-Ranger. Jeff has proven to be Mr. Customer. He understands fully the passion of a C-Brat. I would be reluctant to make the move if it were not for Jeff's involvement.

The hardest part of the decision (other than financial) is leaving behind my beloved C-Sick 22ft Cruiser. If I were a rich man I would keep it but with kids in college and basically a poor man it ain't an option. I just got a whole lot poorer when it comes to cash flow. I hope the four daughters are expecting fancy weddings.

I plan to continue to be a C-brat and hope to participate in as many of the C-brat outings as possible. There are so many C-Ranger owners that have C-Dory blood in them. As you know once a C-brat always a C-Brat.

My read is we now have two great companies whose primary letter is "C".

Correction to the previous post.

I have told all four daughter they cannot date until they are married. Dad will perform the weddings. All on the same day! We will have a coffee and cake reception. I figure I can do all four for $1000. The girls have yet to sign off on this proposition. They are 24, 21,20, 18.

wow, 4 girls, you must spend alot of time on your boat to get out of the house....

Names for your new tug? How about "your wedding fund" or a similar idea?

Hey Kirby & Kim,

Oh, WOW! Congratulations are in order. We're so happy for you. Just fell in love with that C-Ranger Tug at the SBS. Actually went back the next week (after the CBC) and was able to really look it over and spend more time on it.

Pleased to read that Jeff M is still with C-Dory as well as C-Ranger.

If you can get away the weekend of the Bellingham CBGT in July, we'd love to have you join us.

Actually, Jeff is not still with C-Dory - he is still "invested" in it, he is a co-owner along with the Reynolds family, but he is working full time with the Livingstons at Ranger, where he is the "factoryguy." I wonder if Ranger will eventually drop the "C" part...

I live a very pampered life surrounded by five women. They are really the inspiration for the Tug. They like the idea of a genuine head.

I like living a debt free life. The Tug is going to put an end to that so we are thinking we might name it The LOAN Ranger.

There is no way to justify the costs of a boat. I believe it was a wise old salt (Dusty) who once said, "Just enjoy it."

I would assume a "Charmin" life as well. Where ya gonna stow sufficient supplies of that essential consumable in the tug?

C-SICK-

I love "The Loan Ranger"!! Very fitting!!!

Et al.,

If you think about it, the idea of separating the C-Dory and C-Ranger entities is pretty logical, in that they are separate products with separate identities because of their different designs and the different boating priorities embodied therein.

To keep them too close together, inhibits the ability of the C-Ranger to assume it's own identity and to be valued for it's own virtues.

The C-Dory's tough, spartan, and utilitarian image is different from that of the luxurious mini-tug embodied in the new larger C-Ranger boats.

Plus, C-Ranger would probably like to develop it's new boats in relative peace without the C-Brat crowd picking the design apart before the ink is dry on the initial drawings !!!

Joe.

Kirby and Kim --
Yep, good idea for you to marry the girls on the boat -- skipper has the right to marry -- as captain, we married our middle kid on a boat and it was a great time and fond memory for all.
