Cars of the '50's and '60's.

For those of us who are chronologically advantaged, here's a stroll down memory lane.

I found no less than three cars in the flashbacks that I've personally owned, and for the true trivia collector, the last song, "Thunder Road" is the only song for publication that was ever performed by Robert Mitchum.

Us Californicators grew up in those cars, and for many of us the next generation was conceived there as well.

Enjoy

Back in the day, I was lucky enough to have access to my dad's '62 cherry red Vette. 345 hp, 80 mph in 2nd gear, gas $.35 @ gallon -

I guess we weren't very "green" but some great memories.

Thanks Don, my first car was a '57 Chevy BelAir Convertible. Traded that on a '65 Corvette shortly after Sally an I got married in '66. Drove that from Norfolk to San Francisco, took Route 66 most of the way! What a trip!

Sure wish I had both of those cars back again!

 My first car was a 1930 black 2-door Chevrolet. Gas was 23.9 cents a gallon. We did not much worry about gas prices then.

CCflyer, My grand mother had one just like that. Grandpa rebuilt it. Same color and everything. I drove it a few time with the three speed on the tree if I remember right. I was luck with old cars in my family. Mom was the first owner of a silver and black 71 Mach 1 with a 351 c. one grandma had a 69 gto with a 400, other grandma had a alfy spider and the metro. I loved making runs to the store for my grandmothers. My favorite car I owned was my 62 shortbed stepside chevy with a stright 6 and a three on the tree. duel striaght pipes with no mufflers. Had the wrap around windshield, lover that truck.

My other hobby. Vintage VW's.

My fully restored '65 Notchback:

Thanks a lot Don. You just caused me to waste most of an afternoon. I looked at the cars. They were cool. I hummed along with Thunder Road, and then started thinking about Sink the Bismark. So I looked that up on The Google. Learned that, according to the History Channel video, the lyrics of the song are somewhat in error.

Man, Seeing that notchback brought back a flood of memories. I owned a red one while stationed in Germany in the mid 70s drove that car all over europe. It was one car I sure with I could have kept. Would have cost more than I could afford back than to get it to US specs.

local boy, I have seen your car around. I always loved the square back, very few around.

Wow. That's cool to know. :smiled

Yeah, they're all getting harder and harder to locate and the prices have increased as well. Their are still "finds" out there though. I got the split window Westy above for a steal about 4 yrs ago. Had intended to fix it up and "flip" it, but I just couldn't do it. We actually use it for it's intended purpose; camping.

I won't tell you how much a nice, clean original one would sell for now. I've had a bug in college. But I always wanted a Notch since seeing my first one in Hawai'i waaaay back when I was 15 or so. Just took almost 30 yrs to fulfill that dream.

back when gas was $.25 a gal. I had a dollar to my name, when gas was $4.00 a gal. I had a twenty to my name. I'm better off now.

My first car was a 1931 Ford Roadster...it's still in my garage...I paid $150 for it...in 1963... I was the second owner... nice car ...stil is.. I have not driven it for years....last summer we sold several other Model A fords that I had for years.... think this summer I will start driving the Roadster again..
