I am sure a few of you already know this and are nodding heads
The winter finches get trapped in the shrimp traps and die.
i noticed this last month when i was still cleaning the garden and let out two that were still alive. but horrible I forgot to move the traps back into the wood shed. so when I was out in the garden again. i saw the traps and moved them. But i have 3 dead birds in the traps.
i suspect it happened because the traps were stacked on the ground where the birds are looking for seeds. they get in through the holes for the shrimp and can't get out for the same reason the shrimp can't. the wires must catch their feathers. i will have to make amends to the bird community by setting out seed today. at the opposite end of the yard.
just a note to all.
