We were able to see the Chill Kats this last summer. Eagle Charters in Elfin Cove Ak uses them for charter. C-Brat (Ken B.C.) works there and is familiar with the boats. They looked very stable but pushed alot of water at speed.

If anyone is considering using one of these relatively large cats as a personal boat, it might be interesting if Ken would comment on what advantages and disadvantages the larger boat would have compared to a TomCat 255 in terms of ride, cabin size, fishing capabilities, fuel; consumption, transportability, cost, etc.
Of course, the interior configuration is customizable, so that would have to be taken into account.
Also, Thataway's Bob Austin could give us a very good evaluation of the other available cats in this range, as he is very familiar with the them, as I understand.

I corresponded with the Blackfeather folks about the cruising version before they had finished one. As I recollect the cost was going to be fairly close to $200K. I'll have to read all of Ken's reports. There a number of things I like about the boat, but the beam is 10 1/6 feet. This wide load goes into another category where there are more restrictions than at 10 feet. I would love the see the tunnel a little higher, even tough it is higher than the Tom Cat 255. I also more of a gull wing area under the bridge deck (not as flat--and less chance for slam.
I got a chance to get a very good look at the Motorcat 30 this last week. It is an interesting boat. Interior layout is very good and sleeps 4 easily. But the side decks are much more difficult to negotiate than in the Tom Cat. the cockpit is much different-and it is more of an express cruiser. Also semi displacement (with pads aft) hull so it is a slower, lower hp boat.
I have looked at the larger ProKats, Glacier Bays, TwinVee's, and World Cats, plus several custom boats (think $600K up to several million --but a whole different type of boat)

hey there, I was fortunate enough to be able to run one of those fine vessels the summer of 07. some of the early comments made during that summer where just hearsay from the Capt. that ran it the previous summer, take them with a grain of salt. It was a very stable fishing platform that just flew over the chop & didn't do to bad in the bigger seas, it allow a fair bit of backflow through the scuppers with several anglers in the back makeing for wet feet.
Last summer I spied the cruising model tied up in town, awsome looking adventure machine....If I had the funds and the need, I wouldn't hesitate to to put either model on the boat short list (after flying Bob up to check it out, he's the cat guru...I've been on a total of one so my measuring stick is a little short).
