What a great collection of photographs of the 2008 Kiwanis Polar Plunge from Larry K, Odyssey, that proves not all of crazies reside in California, and the photos of very creative mods on the Sea Beagle II that shows just how well a 16 footer can be equipped for cruising. Good job.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

We try to do that every New Years day -- problem is that the Bay of Green Bay is always froze -- a couple of years ago the ice was not on the Bay and we got it done. Ran to the shore, ran into the water, and ran as fast as we could back up to the Cottage and into the hot tub.

What else is there to do in the Wisconsin Winter -- seeing that we don't drink beer...

Thanks. I am hoping to increase the numbers here in Michigan. Larry K, Odyssey probably is as well. Anyone want to join the Farmington Hills C-Dory Yacht Club? I will gladly be the Commodore. :wink

Hey...we are Wisconsinittes -- but we boat mainly in Michigan. You guys have the best State run Marina's -- Beaver Island, Cedar River, Harbor Springs, etc -- all places we love.

Bob,
I agree that Michigan has wonderful marinas all around the Michigan coastline both in the upper and lower peninsula. Maybe some day I will make it to Green Bay by boat.

Sea Beagle II,
As commodore of the Farmington Yacht Club do you propose to locate the facilities somewhere along Grand River (Ave.)?

Regards,

Rollie,

To All,

The boating season in Michigan is not long enough so we need to find other things to do. The Kiwanis Polar Bear Plunge is one of them.

I pushed my boating season to November 22nd, 23rd. I had to break a little ice to get out of Black River and into the big river and then down to the cottage to close it up for the winter. I love boating late in the season as there are no other boats out and the river is all mine and the ride is always very smooth.

As the river in front of the condo is now frozen over even I must admit the season is over. The Odyssey is now put away until April but I still can dream of cruising the Blue Waters of Michigan.

C-Batical & Sea Beagle II,

Let see "Boating on Grand River in the summer and skiing on Mt. Elliott in the winter." :xlol

My work is actually on Grand River Ave. It would be nice to locate work and play at the same address. :teeth

We recently launched from Put in Bay Ohio at a state dock and I was impressed with their facilities. It was free and included a safety check. If they required a safety check for Michigan boaters, most of them wouldn't be on the water.

I can't ski but, I can bring the sleds.

Seabeagle,

Where is the park ramp at Put-in-Bay? At the state park campground?

We have always gone there by water, with our marina being 13 miles away in East Harbor.

We are not going to dock Valkyrie next year, but will trailer it to the lake for 3-5 day weekends.

Hope we can meet at some point.

The ramp that we launched from was the Catawba Island State Park on East Mooresdock Road.

There were others on my maps but, this was the only one we launched from. And we will definately make an announcement on the day that the boat hits the water next year.

Seabeagle,

Okay, I know that ramp well. I was confused because it seemed that you launched from Put-in-Bay, not Catawba Peninsula.

We are looking for some advice from you Michiganders. We left our boat in Mackinaw City for the winter then next summer plan on cruising the Michigan inland waterway, then down lake Michigan to Chicago. Any suggestions for when to travel down the lake - June, July or August.
Would love to hear what you guys have to say.
Thanks
Eric

Nice pictures and thanks for the link to the website, we plan on launching in the spring at Indian River Marina.
Thanks
Eric

Eric,

Indian River Marina are just fine folks, very accomodating. It is where we stay when we are on the waterway. There are pictures of different sections of the waterway in my album as well as in Mark's/Not-For-Hire. The nice thing is that you can cruise over to Cheboygan , out into Lake Huron over to Mackinac Island, and to all points beyond. There is alwyas something to do or places to go when it is rainy, windy, or otherwise.

Michigan welcomes you.

Best regards,
Rollie C-Barical
