Data card for Garmin gpsmap2006c

Hello C-brats

I am about to purchase a press-owned 22 cruiser and am so excited! The current owner had a Gpsmap 2006c with data card for the US west coast. While sitting at the marina, someone stole the chart plotter. The owner bought a used one for me but it has no data card. Searching the Garmin Website it appears this is a discontinued GPS and they no longer supply map updates. Is there any of you who could tell me where I might get a data card for the OR WA AREA? Any other way to get cd maps into the 2006c?

Thanks

Terry

Welcome and Whoo-hoo! on your new boat! :thup

My boat came with a 2006c, and since it was already after Garmin had stopped selling datacards for them, I have become somewhat familiar with looking for them! Since I like to travel around, I posted to see if anyone would want to have a sort of "card exchange," much the way sailors used to exchange charts (except in this case the cards would probably just be borrowed temporarily).

The idea never really took off, which made me think that most folks who have these units either boat mainly in one home area, and/or maybe bought all the cards they would need for different areas on previous travels. I'd still be interested though (and I have more "trading stock" now :D)

At any rate, you can find part numbers and maps for the different cards here:

As far as buying them: I have found a few for sale on Craigslist, but there is usually more of a selection on eBay. If you do a search, it helps to "minus" SD, microSD, g2, flash -- because otherwise you get all those cards, which don't work in the 2006c.

It's also possible to make datacards, with a card programmer and discs that have the charts on them. I haven't done this (and apparently the programmers are a bit flaky), but one kind C-Brat made me a chart of Lake Powell (I sent a blank card). If you are buying blank card(s), note that this unit can only take up to a 128mb card.

Thanks Sunbeam! Yes I am really happy about my boat. I will post details once the purchase is complete. I have been looking since August.

I tried your link and they don't have cards for the 2006c. I would be very interested in finding out how to program a blank card with the data from a CD. It is a shame the 2006c was stolen. It has a sounder as well.

Can't wait to hear about it :) If it has a 2006c, maybe it's a sister to mine.

I probably didn't explain well enough, but that link was just meant as a helpful resource as you are looking for used card(s), because it shows you maps of all the various charts, along with part numbers (can be helpful for searching and/or for figuring out what someone is selling). I don't have the card for your area, or I would be happy to loan/trade it to you.

I bought a used programmer on eBay but have not tried it yet. If you do a search you will find a recent thread where I asked some questions about it, and links to the various bits of software were posted. There are instructions for the programmer on Garmin's site. It sounds like you'd want to be comfortable futzing around with Windows/glitchy programs (that doesn't describe me, alas).

That's one of the ones I now have, and - luckily for anyone who needs that one - it seems to be one of the easier ones to find.

Terry: Speaking of which, I didn't remember that that card went down into Oregon, but if that's your area I would be happy to loan you the card now and for as long as I'm not out in the area (soonest would be possibly next summer). If nothing else, it would give you some time to shop for one while still being able to use your chartplotter. Just let me know if you'd like to use it and I'll pop it in the mail.
