Deciphering honda part #'s - 1998 BF40

Hi,

I have a Honda 1998 BF40A that needs a new lower unit. Unfortunately the part numbers I find on the internet are more complicated than what's actually on my motor!

My motor just says: Serial# BAYL-2000958

However, Boats.net lists the following

BF40AW LHA VIN# BAYL-2000001 to BAYL-2099999
BF40AW LHTA VIN# BAYL-2000001 to BAYL-2099999
BF40AW LRA VIN# BAYL-2000001 to BAYL-2099999
BF40AW LRTA VIN# BAYL-2000001 to BAYL-2099999
BF40AW XRTA VIN# BAYU-2000001 to BAYU-2099999

I assume BF40A and BF40AW is the same thing? Or not?
How do I know which one of the these is mine?

Here is another link that may help you identify your motor. You have to know a little about your motor to identify it, shaft length, remote control, eic . Once you've determined the model # then you can search the parts catalogue for a replacement. Hope this helps.
