Deck Layout

On a 25' - how far back from the bow is your deck cleat ? If you have a windless, did the bow cleat have to be relocated ? How far aft is your windless ?

I'm contemplating putting on a windless to assist the deck apes (me) but remembering the layout on Wild Blue I think my bow deck cleat must be further aft than Jim's' - mine is almost at the rear of the anchor locker.

Hi Dave,

I just went out and measured: the hole for the windlass is 18" back from the bow (not including the anchor roller). The cleat is 32" back (to the center of the cleat). Hope that helps.

BTW, LOVE the windlass - it makes anchoring effortless. Joan usually still goes to the bow (she was the windlass for our other boats), but just to give me directions on anchor placement (find that sandy spot amongst the sea grass) or to let me know what direction to steer. I can anchor solo from the helm with no problem.

Best wishes,
Jim

OK, thanks Jim, I "thought" (what the heck did I just say :| ) your deck cleat was forward of the windless. I just measured mine - on the inside - the aft bolts on the cleat were only 2" fwd of the bulkhead so no way for me to have the cleat fwd of the winch, or did I mean "wench". Time for a little nectar of the glens !

I mounted the back of the windlass, just 1" foreward of the foreward horn of the bow cleat (mounted fore and aft--if athwartships, then go back 3 or so ".
