Down Rigger Questions

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I cannot find anything. How is everyone mounting their Scotty Down riggers? I just picked up a pair of 1106 electric ones to put on our C-Dory 25 and want them to mount them properly. Any pictures would be great!

Ck out the picts in the JMR-TOO album. I have cannons but a different top plate & you are good to go. I tried the clamp to the rail wobbly wimpy B/S & couldn't stand it. :beer :thup

We use a Burnewiin mount. What is nice about this system is that it is easily removed from the boat at the end of the season. Burnewiin can be used for other attachments such as a marine BBQ, fishing rod holders and much more. Go to their website.[/quote]

Any issue with rail wobble and are you able to get the down riggers close to the transom?

There is no rail needed with the Burnewiin mount. It mounts flush to the gunnel. The adapter insert snaps into the mount and is very secure.

Another vote for Burnewiin, we are about ready to install some on our Venture 23. They seem very sturdy and versatile. You can search Burnewiin on Youtube to see their offerings in detail.

Daybreak, where are your electrical sockets mounted for the downriggers?

ATPNW,

The electrical socket is mounted on the bottom edge trim piece (utilizing one of the trim screw holes) of the cockpit side of the transom in the starboard side corner. From there I ran the electrical cable up under the gunnel to the battery.

Where did you find that metal brace?

The local steel supply shop.
That is a piece of 10 gage 316L that I polished, cut & welded into a T & then to the rail, sure takes the scary part of 3 ea. 5/16 bolts/studs holding the rail on from the factory. :thup

(thanks for posting the pict. 2 or 3 browser changes have me baffled on posting picts.)

I used the Scotty 2027 rail mount when we had our 25.
No issues with DR or Pot Pully.
Be sure to use nylock nuts instead of regular, though.

That stainless mount sure is nice.

Do you have space for the Burnewiin with the rail above?
