First grandchild

Just a quick note to my C-brat family to announce that our first grandchild was born today at 5:24AM. Daphne Joe weighed in at 7lb 2oz and was 20.5" long. Mother and child are happy and healthy. All are very tired as labor started yesterday at about 10AM.

Now I have to think about getting a baby life vest, and how many years I have to wait until I can take her fishing.

You'll blink and suddenly, she'll be wanting to go to the prom, and it will kill gammy and gramps. You'll want to go along to keep the boys hands off her.

I have 14 grands and it is almost as nerve wracking watching them grow and experience life as it was watching and raising their dads.

Nothing better that grand kids and the very best ones are the grand daughters. Congratulations.
 
Congratulations Roger, Joyce and of course the happy parents! What a beautiful baby girl.

Being a grandparent is everything it's cracked up to be. Great news!

Congratulations Roger. Glad all are doing well. Now go get that baby vest. They come with a cool collar that works to keep the head well above the surface and face up. I started using ours in a canoe, when my kids were 6 months, and by then they were used to the water and the pool. (Nothing put them to sleep faster than to be laying on a blanket, PFD on, in the bow V of the canoe, or in the center in front of me with the Golden/Irish laying right beside.

We didn't fish, but they had their own paddles from 2 years on. Scoop nets and waterproof flashlights were soon to follow.

The earlier they start, the more "normal" they understand the water life to be. Enjoy.

Congratulations all around! We are happy and excited for you... can't offer any advice, since we only have grand-cats... and you can't take them to DisneyWorld. Enjoy every minute!

Updates:
The mom (and baby) was checked into the hospital for a Friday overnight stay just to get some minor bleeding controlled. All was well by Sat. AM and they area all home and fine now. We stopped by Friday evening to drop off some non hospital food and got to hold the little one for awhile. That was nice. It's been a long time since I've held a baby. Daphne is pretty strong for a newborn and she's a good "squirmer". She doesn't fuss much (so far) and seems to be fine. One foot seems a little misshapen (it looks like she has two left feet) but we're told that was due to the confinement in the womb and that it will straighten out on it's own.

Yesterday Joyce cooked up a storm and we dropped a lot of food off with the kids. I think they were living off a pizza they bought on Sat. so I know they appreciated having multiple meals readily available in the fridge and freezer.
 
My number three grandson had a strange foot thing when he was born. It took most of 5 or 6 years before it turned itself into the correct left foot. It gave him a funny little run/walk that was entertaining and we almost felt bad when it fixed itself.

I'm sure there is no worry there. They are all cartilage at newborn and they mold the way they need to mold over time.
