Anyone ever tie up there and spend an evening? It looks like they might have some moorage there but the web site is less than clear. I called them to find out what the deal is and they were busy and promised to return the phone call but didn't. Anyone have any insight on this as a place to boat to? My department has a retreat schedule there in Sept. I'd like to boat over and back if possible.
 
There are some mooring bouys there, but I don't think they have overnight dock space. There is a launch ramp and dock, but I think it is for day use. The nearest dock space would be at the marina at Pt Wilson. That is probably a two mile walk by road, a mile by beach. Robbi
 
I would recommend a slip at the Boat Haven. Port Townsend has good bus service to Fort Worden. The Boat Haven Marina is not too far to walk to town and the bus terminal is about a block and a half from the marina. There may be space at Point Hudson marina, but they have recently rebuilt it for the big boats. Hudson Point is at the end of Water Street, which its the main street of the town. They do have 4 or 5 mooring buoys at Fort Worden but you would need a dinghy. I don't know if they have any rules about tying up to the dock overnight.. You can call the park service and inquire about that. Depending on when you are arriving, I could loan you a car, but I'll be gone from the 15th of Sept to Oct. 1st. You will enjoy Port Townsend. The Wooden Boat Festival is this coming weekend and the Film Festival is the next weekend. Give me a call if you need more iniformation. 360 315-9790. Lane Stuart

I was in Pt. Townsend 2 weeks ago and they have a public city dock at the heart of downtown. (It appears to be quite new). It is available for 24 HR tie up, no power and I don't recall seeing a charge for the stay...(I'm thinking it was free).
The float is exposed to the wave action and the winds, however so are the mooring buoys at the Ft.

In my opinion, this can certainly be a "fun" town and has plenty of food establishments and pubs. It does cater to tourists. After all the "Officer and A Gentlemen" was filmed in part there!
 
I'll be out there Sept 20 and 21 (a Thursday and a Friday). There will be a lot of other people from my department there so if I really need a ride, I'm sure I can sponge one from them. I'll look into a spot at Boat Haven - I think I stayed there a few years ago.
 
I have always been a big fan of the Point Hudson Marina, facilities are a little old and make you feel like your back in boot camp at times but the marina is situated essentially in the heart of downtown and can be a very quick walk into Ft. Worden. Just my 2 cents. Hope you enjoy your time.

The buoys have always been problematic off of Fort Worden. They only partially float at high tide and are extremely hard to capture when the tide is ripping through there. But if you do get attached it is a pretty nice place to enjoy the views from. The city docks are good, and pretty convenient. But I thought I recalled there being a nominal charge for overnighting.
 
Suggest you e-mail hardee on this site. He stopped there on his way back from Mystery Bay after encountering the challenging rips at Pt Wilson.
If that doesn't work I'll try to stop and scope it out when I'm over at Port Townsend later this week and report back. We've thought that might be a suitable substitute for Hudson Point Marina, too.

In case you didn't get the PM I sent, I'll repeat briefly here. Yes there is a short overnight dock there. It is inside, behind the vertical log breakwater, and it is short, (maybe 40-50 feet). If you have a State Park moorage sticker it is no additional fee. The launch ramp dock get is VERY shallow at low tides. I don't think I would hang out there on anything in the negative tide range. There is very little space in there, no worries about being run over by a 40+ footer, (there is no way they would fit inside there).
