Fortress-11 Seating in Bow Roller

I've switched to a Fortress-11 on Catleen and I like the reduced weight but the anchor does not correctly seat in the bow roller. Instead of seating in the ready position, it rotates 90 degrees and seats sideways. I've noticed there are rollers that have a deep grove, mine is simply tapered. Any thoughts on whether replacing the roller might correct the seating? Thanks, SJH
 
I had a similar issue. First, I changed out the connecting shackle on mine. I had a long shackle, and as it came over the bow roller, it would set the anchor 90 degrees off from the proper resting position. Pulling the anchor in very slowly would allow it to align properly. I some cases, I had to go out on the bow, which I was hoping to avoid. I would think that a swivel connection would eliminate the issue.

The second issue was that the blade points could touch the hull in some cases. I added cheeks to the roller. I'll attempt to post the picture, but if posting doesn't work, it's in my "Modifications" album under "Ground Tackle." I ultimately went with a Vulcan anchor. The Guardian is now my reserve anchor and I can still benefit from it being stowed flat and light weight.

Marco, were you using a Fortress FX-11? I've put an inquiry into Fortress to see what they say about bow rollers. But, I'll take your advice and try retrieving really slow and see what happens.

I was using a Guardian 4, the little (and cheaper) brother to the FX 11. I think that the CD 16 has a smaller bow roller, but the same style, as the other C Dorys. The problems seemed to be that the light weight Guardian/Fortress anchors don't have enough weight to flop them into the correct position every time. Another issue for me was that the Guardian 4 (4 lbs) didn't have enough weight to quickly drop using my manual setup (there is some friction in the two deck blocks that lead my rode to the helm). The cheek pieces helped by not allowing the Guardian to "pinch" on to the roller and holding it out a couple inches further on the roller. But the Vulcan 4 (4 kgs) drops like a lead balloon, so it wins.
