Most have probably read or at least heard of the Kon - Tiki Expedition by Thor Heyerdahl.
My wife got me an interesting book for Christmas - Plastiki by David de Rothschild. It is the story of a 60' catamaran built from 12,500 recycled plastic bottles.
Among the crew of 6 is the grandson of Thor, Olav Heyerdahl. They sailed it more than 8,000 miles across the Pacific to Sydney Australia.
I havn't read it all yet but it looks like an amazing story. It also brings to the fore some brutal facts regarding our oceans. Like the North Pacific garbage patch that is more than twice the size of Texas.
They have a website "The Plastiki.com" - make sure you put "The" in front or you will get credit card sites.
Regards, Rob
