G-chart for Garmin 235

Our 24 Tomcat came with a Garmin GPS Map 235 Sounder. Rather than replacing the unit with a new model, I'm thinking of keeping it and buying a new hand-held for backup. Admittedly, it is a bit of a dinosaur; however, it works well and seems adequate.

Do any of you know where I might obtain a Gulf Coast G-chart (home port: Galveston Island, Texas) for a Garmin Model 235? Garmin apparently no longer supplies G-charts for this model.

Thanks for any comments, suggestions or opinions.

Hi Kerry,

I may have that chart. We should be back home by late September and I will look for it, if you are still interested. IIRC, it is Brownsville to the TX/LA border. It was circa 1999, from a Garmin 185.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Jim,

I am interested. I believe my Garmin 235 dates to 1999. Do you know if Garmin 235 and Garmin 185 charts are interchangeable?

I look forward to hearing from you upon your return.

All the best,

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

To the best of my knowledge, any model that uses a G-chip should be compatible. I will check my boat stuff when we get home... I am 95% sure I still have that chart chip.

Keep in touch. Watch for a PM.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I have an older Garmin that uses the G-chart cartridges that have been discontinued. I am looking for blank cartridges and western lakes, Yellowstone, etc.. If anyone has some to sell or know of a source, let me know.

Thanks,
Kevin

They come up on Craig's list and E bay regularly---just have to wait to find the correct region. I suspect that some of the C Brats may come up with one.

It came with G-Chart chips for some of the eastern region where the boat was originally purchased. Seems everything I find on eBay and Craigslist is for the east. I will keep looking.

Hopefully someone has blank chips or western lakes. Seems to be a pretty nice GPS if I could locate chips.

Thanks,
Kevin
