Hi,

Does anybody know of a gel coat repair kit for a 2005 C-Dory 22 Cruiser. I don't think the color is white, it seems kind of off white. If you know of one and can give me a link to purchase a kit that would be great..

Thanks,

Marc is right on--Spectrum. But a good glass person can match the color--a little brown, yellow and blue, but not that hard to match. It is a Cook Composite standard Gel coat.

That's probably it, but I had an email exchange with Spectrum and they didn't have the C-Dory white in stock as a patch/paste kit. The smallest they could sell was like a quart or something completely overboard for my use.

I think I talked to Spectrum on the phone 6 months ago and it was like $55 for a quart, color matched, but it's not as convenient as a patch kit which you can basically apply with a plastic putty knife (I think).

I'm tempted to just eyeball it and try to find the closest Spektrum patch kit at Fisheries Supply. Last time I went in there were only 4 colors and they were all Bayliner or Sea Ray.

DIY means getting a set of pigments--West Marine sells a set of pigments with gel coat patch for about $47. On line these are less. You experiment with the color, and then add catalyst when you have the color right.

In this case, I would go with Dr. Bob's suggestion. I bought the C-Dory off-white and green color kits a few years ago from Spectrum to repair some dings on C-Dancer. The off-white was a good color match but as it turns out, the green was slightly off and therefore pretty noticeable. If I were to do it again, I would probably do the mix and match as Bob suggests.

I just used spectrum gelcoat patch paste to repair some dings in the blue gelcoat of my 2008 22. I was afraid the color would be off but it turned out great. I bought my spectrum patch kit from iboats, because they were a little cheaper. Good luck.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good paint match for a 2007 C-dory blue. This would be the color trim along the top edge of the boat's hull, and also of the bottom. I need to touch up some areas, and don't want to mess with gelcoat, as these are mostly rubbed areas that are not damaged in any other way.

Evercoat makes a little kit with all the colors and everything you need to do gel coat repairs including some instructions. I would buy some 400 grit wet sand paper along with some 600 and 800 grit wet sand paper, masking tape and some extra popsicle sticks for mixing. The Evercoat kit is available at Defender Marine page 196 of their current 2012 catalog. www.defender.com It's listed at $37.99. Don't add the hardner in until you have the color right. If you run out of the release paper just use wax paper. :D
D.D.

Actually I'm just looking for some paint to match. Don't want to do any gelcoat touch ups. On my old Searay, I was able to find some green paint by interlux that matched the gelcoat perfectly. In fact, I had to have some fiberglass/gelcoat work done on it, and the shop that did it was having a hard time getting a gelcoat match, and in the end used the paint I had found earlier. I'm hoping I can find a blue that matches the C-dory blue, and just wondering if anyone has already "invented that wheel", before I put a lot more time trying to find the right match. Thanks. Colby
