Gimbal mount for Fusion MS-RA200 stereo?

Hello all - I have the Fusion MS-RA200 and torn between buying the gimbal mount Fusion sells or to build an enclosure and fit it in there. I will be mounting this under the shelf on my 19' C-dory. I was thinking with the gimbal mount I can take the stereo out of the boat along with all my other stuff to prevent theft. Any thoughts are much appreciated.
 
I've seen it done both ways. I built a box to install mine but I also had a couple of DVM's I was trying to install so it was more convenient to build 1 box for all three. Another alternative is an under dash mount kit (readily available from places like Crutchfields).
