I thought of Peter -- the jazzmaniac -- while looking at Jessica Williams' upcoming concert schedule and thought there might be other jazz fans among the Washington C-Brats. If so count yourself lucky. If you love jazz, especially jazz piano, you are in for a treat. Jessica has a number of dates coming up in Washington, including Seattle and even Whidbey Island. All you can say about her is that she is amazing. Wish I could be there to enjoy.

I've never seen her live, but I've got several of her recordings. I'm a huge Thelonious Monk fan, and she's one of the only pianists I "trust" with Monk's work. She manages to do it justice AND put her own stamp on it.

Loved jazz since childhood -- Took three increasingly complex courses in Jazz Appreciation in college (college life is tough, eh?) -- and we share the joy of Thelonious Monk -- so will also check out Ms. Williams. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the mention Greg. Yes, Jessica Williams is certainly one of the greats. Hopefully we'll have a chance to see her sometime soon.

It's nice knowing there are other jazzoids on the site :smiled

Monk... now that's deep.

Some of us who were at the Lankford Bay, Rock Hall MD gathering this last weekend ( and a couple days before the weekend for some of us) were treated by and at one of our C-Brats place in DOWNTOWN Rock Hall. Great night of Jazz....

Thanks Tom.... and it was a bit more professional than our "crew" in formation with Kazoo's at the Marina. What a blast...

The Mainstay in Rock Hall, my venue, is a 501 C 3..and jazz is our forte.

Check out our website...just type any search engine: Mainstayrockhall.

We are in our 11th year, over 550 concerts...in jazz here are just some of the people wev'e had..
Bucky Pizzarelli,Charlie Byrd, Frank Vignola, Warren Vache, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, BillAllred Classic Jazz Band, Chuck Redd,Robert Redd, Statemen of Jazz, Mickey Roker, the great jazz drummer (first name?) Hamilton, John Allred, Steve Abshire, Howard Alden, Kenl Peplowski, Bill Mays, and so many more.
If you are ever in this area, check it out.

Also, great blues, folk and classical...in a perfect acoustic setting seating only 120.

terraplane --

It doesn't get any better than great music in a small club. Warren Vache does a piece called "I Can't Get Started" that totally blows me away.

The name you are looking for is Jeff Hamilton, I believe. At least, that's who I am thinking of in today's terms. Fun stuff.

Yep, Jeff Hamilton...he is a close friend of Chuck Redd, a great vibes player from DC. Jeff came in from LA and did a night with five wonderful players...

I guess i'd better put in something about boats here or we will get yelled at for talking about jazz, so, let's see...

" What sound system on a boat best reproduces classic, 20th century songbook, jazz"

that ought to do it.

Tom: Thanks for the name of your place in Rock Hall. Yes, it is a great place. Sorry, I did not recall the exact name, but I have it logged into my favorites on my Garmin get me there gizmo out in the truck. Anyone traveling that area simply need to plan a stop there.

But, you have to get off your boat to make it. Grin.

Thanks for the invite Tom and thanks for all your work on the gathering. It was great to see you again after our time in Seattle a few years back. Time does fly and your CD that I forgot to get back to Terry helped me on my drive home. Thanks for your contribution to the watermen via song and history.
