After meticulously attacking every screw in my boat with the "overdrilling thickened epoxy "technique 2 years ago, I realized yesterday there was one spot right beneath my nose that I had overlooked. The three hinges for my cabin door. "Surley the factory wouldnt have put screws into dry balsa in such a vulnerable spot, no need to get nervous ", I told myself. Well as I removed the door, the screw holes were full of mush. I opened it up from the back and found lots more mush. These screws look to have been leaking since 1988. It is amazing how the water soaked up almost as much as down. Iam happy with my repair, although it cost me my weekend. I added a photo (most recent ) in my album showing the middle hinge halfway into the project.
