Here is 2 webcams from the Duke Marine lab in Beaufort

39 years ago I spent 2 yrs on the Columbia University Research Vessel RV Vema.
It was credited with the discovery of the Mid Atlantic Rift.

It logged more ocean miles than any other Ocean research vessel.

The 202 FT three masted Schooner was donated by the actress Betty Hutton to Columbia University.

On the legs I participated in we crossed the Atlantic six times from Africa to South America.

The worst weather I ever saw was in the Screaming Sixties off Antarctica.

I have pictures of 4 story waves. The entire bridge would go under water.

I was young and had no fear. I considered it excitement.

I was not the Captain. I was not responsible for navigation or strategy.

Now I get a puckered rear end backing in a Marina slip.

Ahh to be young again!

The webcam that has the Small research boat in it is facing Town Creek and the sheltered area of the Beaufort Water front. You won't see much action there.

The other webcam includes the Beaufort inlet in the upper left and in the morning you will be able to see the breakers in the inlet when the winds peak.

It is blowing there now. Just watched the trees, even at night you can see pretty good. 0210 there now.

thanks for the link. Keep your head down.

Lady KC was on the hook
inside the hook at Cape Lookout,
Wednesday and Thursday of this past week.

Just an easy 3 hour, 55 mile run out to the Cape
from our marina in the New Bern, NC area,
even with all of the ICW slow wake zones.

It was bottle smooth until about 4AM on Thursday
when the gentle breeze shifted out of the North.

The TomCat hulls get noisy with a wee bit of a chop
so checking the anchor
notice a sky full of stars.

Hadn't seen such a show since anchored off St Lucia.

Would not have been fun out there
with Sandy coming by to say Hi

There is a young couple that attend this lighthouse.
I have notice the webcams are not presently working
in this Hatteras area so I assume they received a mighty blow.

I must have missed you. I made the trip back and forth from AR-15 to Cape Lookout all last week. I think we had the nicest weather in 3 months.
We beached the boat at the Cape at least 3 times just to cast for Finger Mullet bait.
Cape Lookout is one of the nicest places on earth.
I know the trip you made to the Cape. I used to run from Minessotte Beach Marina to the Cape on my sail boat. It took any where from 5 to 7 hrs depending which way the current was running in Adams Creek.
Looks like your home port is Pinehearst NC. That's about a 35 minute drive from my home.
I stayed at Town creek Marina this time. $1.50 a foot a night with a Boat US discount.
It is just too much with the dog to spend the night on the hook. Even at the dock it is a chore to get her in and out of the boat.
Look forward to meeting up with you at the Cape.
Cheers,
Rich
