Hour meter

When I had my Honda main engine serviced I also had an hour meter installed. When I first turned on the engine after the service it read 146.3 hours. Was this information retrieved electronically from the engine? Thanks

Is the hours meter a digital or analog? If it is an analog they cvan be zero'd by shorting across two of the terminals in the back. The bad news is that I can't remember which two.

My honda and Suzuki are "electrical/mechanical"--using a clock on 12 volts, and when I switched them out, they read zero...I ran them on a battery bank or 12 volt power supply until they read what was on the engine by history from the failed hour meter.

My Suzis are that way too. 2001 engines put on a 2006 boat. The meters read the time since installed in 2006, the tachs which are linked to the engines read the real time on the engines with the tach readings, as described by the engine manuals.

You should of paid for a new meter Marty, sounds like you got a "used" one  .
On a serious note - is that close to what you thought the engine had on it?

It's a Honda digital meter. The number showing is about 30% less than I had estimated were on the engine. I'm going with Dan's assessment on this one. Thanks
