How to adjust wiper angle and Suzuki throttles?

I have been meaning to do a couple of projects since I bought the boat. Does anyone know how to adjust the angle of operation on the AFI 1.5 motors?

Also, does anyone know how to adjust the tension on the Suzuki throttles? The older side mount type has a single screw to adjust but the new top mount reads "consult dealer" in the owners manual.

Thanks!

Hmmm...crickets...ha ha

I replaced my stock 11.5" wipers with the 14" and it makes a great difference. I would still like to cover a few more inches of the windshield with the wiper action.

I also hope to loosen my throttle resistance a bit. It's hard to advance a small amount due to the current resistance.

Many thanks.

Don't know how to adjust throttle resistance Matt. Currently mine have to go about halfway down to full just to get off of idle. I'd like to make it so they're a little more sensitive than that. Have to wait until it gets a little cooler though, too hot to work outside most days although the last two have been a little better!

I'll have to look at my wipers. The "park" circuit on the port one is on the fritz.

I beleive the tension adjustment is under the cover. There should be a pop off plastic plate that covers the screws that hold the cover on.

I'll see if I can get a better answer from a tech today.

Charlie-

If I remember right (!), the "Park" circuit is always on electrically so that it will drive the motor to a certain position until the contacts on the cam open it up, shutting off the motor and parking the whole shebang. I kinda remember that the park circuit therefore has it's own fuse (?)

But then, at our age, remembering is sometimes a hit-and-miss crap shoot!

Joe, hurry up, you still have time to delete the second post!! :crook

I found both fuses, that's not the problem, probably the contacts inside... :disgust

There are two ways to approach this problem:

1. Disconnect the live wire to the wiper motor, but now the wiper blade will stop when you switch off. This was my fix on an intermittent rainy day 60 miles out in Prince William Sound.

2. Take apart the wiper motor, there you will find a copper contact that momentarily separates to stop the motor. There is not much room for error when adjusting this contact (bending) what you’ll need to do is bend it so that when the separation occurs it is enough to stop the motor. If you bend it too much the wiper will just stop like above when you switch off. You can bench test the motor easily with a 12 volt power supply and with the housing cover off.

I know these things through trial and error, mostly error. Perhaps I will get around to fixing mine this week, but I sort of like to stop the wiper blade at the top of the stroke and other times at the bottom. What I would ultimately like is to replace the noise motors with quieter ones. After spraying the inside of the cabin with Delta-T insulation the wiper motor noise drives me batty.
Way I see it, wipers are like kids,,seen but not heard. :D

This sounds useful. Can you provide the details on how you did this?

Thanks,
Warren

Hi Warren,
It's just a matter of replacing the wiper blade. The existing blades snap right out (press one button and they slide right off the arm), then slide the new longer blades right on. They snap right into place. Badda boom-badda bing.

Someone posted the AFI model number to order. I can look for it again from the search.

Follow up on tension adjustment- After you pull the plastic cover off, you will find two rubber "corks". Remove these and the set screws will be underneath them.

Hi Matt,
Yesterday I pulled the cover. The small rubber corks appear to cover other gearing or serve as perhaps some sort of grease reservoir. There are no screws under the corks (my screwdriver could move in every direction and only a bit of grease same out on the end).

On the other side of the housing there are two screw heads which I believe are the throttle adjustments. I did not have time to test so I turned them counterclockwise about 1/3 of a turn and will test is the next time I'm running.

Thanks for the help in getting this far.

Ping to see if anyone knows how to adjust the angle of the AFI wiper movement.

Thanks!

Matt, I don't think they ARE adjustable. The AFI motors at WM come in the 80degree and 110degree versions, two different motors entirely. Have you got the pantographic arms on there?

I have just the regular angular movement. I thought all of them were adjustable no?

Take a look at the WM link I posted earlier. They sell wipers with different angles. I don't think they are adjustable. You can get a lot more coverage though by using the pantographic arms with the longest blade that will fit it.
