The black part on top of the piece of starboard is the "cleat" for a Scotty down rigger weight retrieving system. In brief, a 5-6' line about the thickness of a boot lace is attached to a ring through which the down rigger cable passes. You use that line to pull the weight closer so you can more easily grab the weight or the down rigger release clip. I used one on my 22 for awhile but found it was easier to just tilt the down rigger up to get to the weight. Also, I've made the lines to my release clips so they are attached to the cable and not the ball and I've made them long enough that I just grab them with a boat hook and flip them into the cockpit. As a result, I no longer use this weight retriever device.

I suspect that the black ring outboard of the piece of starboard was used to route the line for the weight retriever.

Wow..do they still do the Swap Meet? I loved it when the factory did it...I bought lots of stainless steel nuts and bolts...gave me a great supply that I am still using... heck the year they had it they were even selling seat backs and windows...at super low prices... wish I had a truck.. My wife made me stop buying as she thought I could not pack it on the airplane.

Joel, this is the C-Brat Swat Meet (CBSM) at the hotel, not the sale at the factory. You need to make another journey up to the Gathering and Show.

(Of course, while you are up here, I'm sure there is nothing stopping you from driving on up I-5 to the factory at Triton Marine to buy a new C-Dory..... ).
