Hull ID Number

Happy Easter Everyone. I wonder if anyone can tell me where to find the hull number on a 22 Cruiser and do you think the factory would offer any history on it.
Cheers Terry

The HIN is usually on the back of the transom imprinted into the glass. Mine was on the port side if I remember right. That is where it is on the 25. It should read something close to

CDO22 xxx (A-L) xxx

CDO22 stands for C-Dory 22
xxx would be the production number of the boat ie. 065 would be the 65th boat built
A-L is the month of production. A=Jan L=Dec
and the last xxx would be the day (first xx) and the last x would the year.. I may be off on the last xxx. the last two xx's may be the year. ie. 05 = 2005

I think the third digit from the last is the year the build was started and the fourth (the letter) is the month. So, for example, if the HIN ended in J708* the build would have been started in October of 2007 and (from the last two numbers) the boat designated as a 2008 model year boat.

Also, I think the builder ID was originally DOR and went to CDO around 2000.

*This HIN scheme started in 1984 and was slightly different before that year.

Thanks for the replies. You are a awsome group of people. I have been hunting for awhile and may of found the right one. We shall see ?
Thanks

My 1985 has two HIN's, one hidden under the roof overhang (eyebrow) or whatever it's called. I believe it's required> Dr. Bob should know. C-Otter

Usually the primary HIN is on the Starboard upper transom. The "hidden" is under the eyebrow.
After August, 1984 the HIN are thus:

First three letters relate to the manufacture. C Dory has had a number of different Manufacture Identification codes used for C Dory boats that I know of: DOR, CDO, GXK, MFN, CCR, UWH, MEH, CMC, (several of these are the Venture/Cape Cruiser) The next 5 digits are the serial number. Usually the hull length, and then build number, maybe not in sequence. Next is a letter which is the month of the year and a digit of the year of certification or manufacture. (Usually when the hull is started) Finally two digits model year.
