Hydraulic Steering Noise

The hydraulic steering for my Suzuki 90 (about 65 hours) makes a low growling noise while turning. A vibration in the wheel accompanies the noise. It is the factory installed system. The mechanic thinks the lines do not need bleeding.

Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome.
 
I would make sure the rod coming out of the steering cylinder at the motor is well greased. That is going to be the most likely place for this kind of noise to happen.

I would check the hydraulic fluid level. Had a similar noise and then no steering at all. The fluid level was below the gears in the helm. Had a leak in a fitting on the back of the helm.

Would taking off the filler cap at the helm introduce air into the hydraulic lines?

No, not unless you turn the wheel and the level is extremely low. I doubt it's that low. Look around all the fittings for leaks, se whatcha find... :|

You must check the fluid-level by taking off the cap anyway.

Mine will make funny sounds, but it's normal when there is pressure on the engine going in the same direction as the hydraulic-ram (streering ram) is pushing it. It's just the little directional control valves going clickity-click. Sounds kinda neat, but there is never anything felt in the wheel :disgust you may have problems :|
