Katrina Spring Break

Last night, daughter Jessica and I returned home after spending J's "spring break" in Mississippi helping in the "rebuilding" efforts after Katrina. Thanks, to Patrick (Byrdman) for assisting me last December in "linking" our church group up with the Van Cleave Methodist Church, Van Cleave, Mississippi for this endeavor. (Another GREAT REASON, for this fine community of C-Brats on this site!).

At any rate after awakening this AM, I logged on to this site and read the "836" posts that occurred in our absence, then read the "43" posts that occurred while I was reading the "836" posts!

So, now I'll add to the posts with a comment about our "Spring Break".... We painted the interior of a home that had water 4' high inside, before it stopped rising...mind you, that their home is situated approx. 1/2 mile from the nearest body of water (bayou) and have never flooded before! The owner of the home couldn't swim and thought she would die! She looked into her garage and saw her car floating, the wind blew part of her roof off and her dog was bit by a snake, but survived. The second home we worked on, lost its' roof and also had 4' of water come in. (We "taped" sheet rock in this home). These folks managed to get their 75 year old parents into the attic. They have an extended family all living within a half mile of each other in four houses. (One of the homes was swept off its' foundation). These folks are working their regular jobs (some 10 to 12 hours a day), then return home to work on rebuilding their houses. (They really appreciate all the help!) Most of the folks did not have flood insurance so when the water came in at 4', that damage was not "covered"). One of the "tool" trailers from Frazer United Methodist Church (this is the church that Byrdman attends), is parked at the Van Cleave Methodist Church where we "based" out of. So, when I entered the trailer to obtain tools, I thought about Byrdman and all you C-Dory folks. Daughter Jessica, worked hard and she and I were most proud of her work! Excellent experience for both of us! Folks say that there are several years of work to be done yet!

Thanks again Byrdman, for "linking" us up with such a fine group of people!

Dave,

Duster is proud to know you. Great thing to do and something to remember for years and years. Welcome back to the rain -- a guy caught a 25 pound salmon near the Pass yesterday so I may be hard to find for a few days.

Come on up and have a cuppa and some chat.

Dusty

Great job dave. If you had asked for help I would have sent james with you. He has the same spring break as your girl does. Would have been better for him then hanging around here all week.
