I'm looking at getting a couple ~20 lb collapsable kedge anchors to have as second/backup, as well as holding down my subsistence halibut longline gear (I fish anywhere from 30 to 90 hooks).

I am interested in anyone's experience using these, especially on a CD22. I thought about putting this in the fishing forum but am more confident in these as longline gear than holding my boat. Apologies for blurring the lines.

Luke, Makes these and they are very expensive. Cheaper are those at Go2Marine About $60 for a 20#. I probably would suggest the Northill style anchor--and any good marine shop can make one. This is probably the most common anchor in the world. The stock can be made to fold, although it is at the bottom. The sea plane anchor used during WWII were SS. Folding Northill anchors. If you could score a couple of those, they take up the least room and have high holding--just would hate to loose one.

I have not used these for fishing gear, but have used both patterns, for anchoring all different sizes of boats. They are great for grass, terrible for mud, unless they get down into the substrate--and if it is clay--difficult to get out. Rocks--hang up easily and you need a trip line.

I would have a local welder make up some Nothill style, if you don't weld yourself. Channel for the stock and shank, flat plate for the flukes.
 
Thanks Dr. Bob. I'm a terrible welder, but have an excellent one who does my welding for me. I'll give it a look.
