Kicker Fuel Supply

Bought a 6 hp Tohotsu kicker for our CD-22. Would like to run it off the existing fuel tanks with the main motor. Can I simply tee into the main motor fuel line on the downstream side of the primer bulb, or is there a better way to go? I could not find any previous thread on the subject. Thanks in advance.
 
If you have a water /fuel seperator that will have extra hose fittings for a small outboard. If you dont have a water sep get one
 
I checked the fuel/water separator and it does have a second outlet for a kicker. Problem solved. Thanks for the tip. Once again, the value of this website...
 
I would put a manual shut off valve on the fuel water separater where you take the kicker fuel supply off. That prevents any possible air induction from the suction of the main engine. Many kicker supplies have a 3 way valve. Taking from the filter is an excellent idea. Personally I would want a separate priming bulb. Another thought is to carry a portable tank, since failure of the primary engine is often fuel related.
 
A better idea is not to tie your kicker to the same fuel supply as your main engine - crappy fuel in one tank COULD disable both engines. If you want your kicker to be a backup for your main engine keep EVERYTHING separate. JMOO.
 
Toyman- Makes sense. My thinking was to ultilize the convenance of running off the main tanks, but still carry the portable tank with it's own supply hose/primer. If the main system failed, it would be a quick unplug, plug-in the portable tank, re-prime and start.
 
YES.

Motors are stupid they don't know where the fuel come from.

Mine is like that. However each motor has its own squeeze bulb.

No troubles yet.

This past spring I ran into the same problem when installing a new kicker. Where to get a fuel source. To expedite it I just "T-ed" into my large engine line but kept the bulb in the new engine line also. After using it that way for awhile it dawned on me that any kind of fuel problem would "bugger up" both engines Not good.
As my boating season is over I will park it as is. But in the spring I plan on replumbing it all so I can unplug the kicker and plug it into a separate tank.
My 200 hp Honda fuel supply is fixed at the engine end. It has no quick connnect. I do not like that as it does not allow me to use an emergency hose or separate tank if trouble occurs. That will be solved in the spring also.
 
If you have the room, I suggest both the T from the main tank, and a separate 3 gallon tank. Why? I had to get towed when I got contaminated gas in my main. Neither motor would run.
