Klean Heat Shelf Life

We just installed a Wallas 1300 and are using Klean Heat for fuel. I bought three jugs from Home Depot thinking that it may be a seasonal item around here. Scan Marine cautioned that Kerosene deteriorates quickly and that fresh fuel is important. I was wondering what experience others have had with storing Klean Heat for any length of time. How long have you kept it without problems? Do you use any additives in it?

Sealed in the container, out of direct sunlite & at room temp it will probably outlast all of us. Once you open it I would guess a year! :mrgreen: :beer
 
I am using 2 yr old Klean Heat right now, just burned about 14 hrs total during my outing this week. No problems. This is synthetically manufactured (formula unknown), the shelf life will most likely be different than kerosene. I also heard (from Scan Marine I believe) that when kerosene deterioates, it begins to leave a residue or precipitates at the bottom of the container. Not sure about that one, but I checked my containers, no solids.
 
Right now i'm burning a jug that is over two years old...kept in unheated barn area. No problems. I always start on highest setting and shut off in highest setting to burn off carbon,I'm told.

Just make sure the jugs sit completely on the shelf. I had two that got moved around a bit and hung off maybe an inch on one end. And it happened to be the end closest to the wall that you don't see. This will make the container sag just enough to make a nice tiny crack.

Drip...drip...drip... I noticed a moist stain on the outside of the garage foundation block and went to investigate. What a mess...
