Hi all
I,m posting this in the hope some of my fellow Islanders have ventured out this way.
planning trip to kyoquot sound , I'm going to be driving in, turning off the Island highway north of campbell river just below nimpkish lake.
can anyone recommend a good over land route
I'm not sure if I should drive into zeballos then turn towards fair harbour or
take the artlish main to tahsish inlet
the artlish main truns off the zeballos main around atluck lake

thanks for any info
oh I should mention I will not be towing the cd22 over these roads
but our 16' aluminum (much more logging road friendly)

I'm not an Islander, but I have been to Kyoquot Sound a couple of times. We took the turnoff to Artlish, there was a launch there at the Artlish River. There were guides there that were launching a 26' boat.

It's a wonderful area, I wish I had the guts and enough spare tires to tow my 25 in there and spend a couple of weeks.

been reading about the artlish rd ,not very well maintained and not sure about the boat ramp
so fair harbour it is , a little longer drive but the safer bet.
A quick trip just the weekend will be traveling light no c-dory
open 16' aluminum, tent and a fishing rod.
we are hoping to make it up to bunsby islands just south of brooks peninsula
but will have to wait and see what the weather brings.

bess-c did you go on a guided fishing trip our in your own boat?

Both times were kayaking trips. The first time we took the Uchuck freighter out of Gold River. The Uchuck travels there every Thursday. We took our kayaks along and negotiated a deal with the guys that own the Uchuck to stay in their cabin at Walters Cove for a week and then ride back out with them the following Thursday. I talked one of the local fishing guides into taking us out one day when everyone stayed off of the water because of the weather. It was the wildest fishing trip I've ever been on because of the wind, but we caught coho until our arms were tired.

The second trip was with a kayaking group that was located on Spring Island off the mouth of Kyoquot Sound. We paddled north from there and spent time in the Bunsbys and then up as far north as the Brooks Peninsula. If the weather's reasonable, it's only 7 miles to the Bunsbys and you have other areas you can jump off to from there.

I've thought about putting our 25 in at Gold River and running all the way around the backside of Nootka Island. From the north end of Nootka it would be about a 2 hour run along the coast to Kyoquot Sound. The only problem is that if the weather turned on you, it could take a week or two to get a weather break to get back to Nootka Sound.

It's a wonderful area. If I lived on your island I would spend a lot of time there.
