Just a plug for Southern Boating, for those of you down in that lower-righthand corner of the USA. I've got an article in this issue on MOB alarms, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Let me know if it made any sense! Explaining the operational principles used by the various products is not easy, but it is critically important if you're going to select the right one for your boat and your usage profile.

For instance, while Raymarine Lifetag is probably the most well-known MOB alarm, reasonably priced, and would interface easily with my C-series chartplotter, it's NOT the right choice for me. I want another product entirely, one oriented around "engine kill" rather than "set a waypoint" when somebody falls in the water.

Anyway, I'm interested in feedback. My article starts on page 34.

Congratulations on being published in Southern Boating. I did skim the article and then went back and found it to read carefullly. Sorry I missed your byline.--it was more obvious at the end of the article.

One of the problems is Southern Boating splits up the articles and the second part is 100 pages down the line. I think that having diagrams to show the different types of alarms would help to differentiate the types of alarms and their features.

Southern Boating is one of half a dozen "pro bono" magazines I get in the mail, and I confess I don't read all of the articles in them.

Thanks for writing the article!
