Marine Plastic Wood/Lumber?

I'm getting ready to build some shelves with roll-outs under the galley and a drawer under the helm seat and wondered what experiences any of you have had with the poly wood that the catalogs sell.

I wondering about attachment techniques, weight and strength compared to wood and so on. I understand that the marine catalogs get more money for theirs (what else is new) and that the big box stores sell it for less, but when I was in Lowe's today I was told that they don't carry it.

Any help, suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I made a bunch of stuff out of it...but your very right about being spendy...I think teak may be cheeper...
The stuff seems very strong.... and it is maintenance free....not so with wood.
it is easy to machine...cuts and sands like wood...easy to seal the edges...I use 5200 adhesive and stainless screws.... looks nice too.

West Marine has a video that they will usually loan...it shows how to work with the starboard...

Yes it costs more, but it looks professionally done and I am glad I used it.

Hey Nick, try Home Depot. Last time I was in there, they had it, at least in Northern VA.

I have some "Decragaurd" if you need it. You can pick it up when you stop in.

Also there are several places that carry "King Starboard" sheets. You may want to try http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/

I have some of that also, but you can get it almost anywhere.

Jeol I might be wrong but the last time I check with my wood supplier , teak was $ 18 a linear foot , not sure about the starboard but I think the last time I check it was around $400 for a 4'x 8' 3/4 . You are right about the look white stuff look much better and hardly any maintenance.
